Main Campfire, Friday Evening

Once the sun went down, a rather spectacularly large bonfire was lit for the party. No, Merlin was not aware it was now celebrated on the first of May. Calenders change, after all.

There was even a crudely constructed maypole there in case anyone felt the need to dance around it. They did so at their own peril, of course. The mockery that may ensue would probably be great.

The blank looking stare has not gone away. She might be from 2009, but they hadn't allowed any technology in the apartment any more than they let anything else.

Ben rolled his eyes a bit. "What century are you from?" he asked, trying to figure out how basic he needed to get.

"2009," she said with a flat look.

Ben didn't care about flat looks. "And this planet?" he replied.

"This one," and she stopped clenching her teeth.

"Then you've really got to get out more," Ben said, echoing her flat tone. "Electronics make this planet work."

She puffed out a breath and gave him a dry smile.

"I know. I'm still trying to figure out the laptop thing my brother let me have coming here."

Let her have in the sense of 'couldn't prevent her claiming and didn't really try'.

"Have you tried plugging it into the wall?" he asked.

She rolled her eyes at him now.

"I'm unfamiliar with it, not an idiot. I know what a plug looks like."

"You're the one who didn't know what a kriffing robot was," Ben snapped, "which is pretty much a laptop that wanders around. It's hard to tell what you're going to understand."

She opened her mouth to snap back before letting her hands curl into fists and pressing them against her thighs.

"I said I was still figuring it out," she said slowly, "not that I couldn't get it to work. I'll try to be more clear in the future."

She watched him leave, feeling like she'd gotten a D on one of her papers for her Grandmother, and swallowed down. Her first impulse was to leave, but she refused to leave just because of one mistake. Maybe he would talk to her again. Maybe he wouldn't.

Either way, she'd probably be at the salle tomorrow.
