Once the sun went down, a rather spectacularly large bonfire was lit for the party. No, Merlin was not aware it was now celebrated on the first of May. Calenders change, after all.

There was even a crudely constructed maypole there in case anyone felt the need to dance around it. They did so at their own peril, of course. The mockery that may ensue would probably be great.

"You should try dancing around the Maypole," he teased, half waiting to get smacked.

"And why would I do that?" she wondered.

"Because it's the purpose of the party," he informed her.

"To dance around a pole?"

"Uh huh. It's not my religion, but it's someone's."

"...It's someone's religion to dance around a pole at a party?"

"Exactly. I never said anything on Earth made sense."

"What's the dancing supposed to even be for?" she wondered.

"To bring spring or something," John guessed. "And then I think you sleep with the people you dance with."

Jaina laughed. "And you want to see me do this. Would you be dancing with me?"

"No," he shook his head. "I was kidding. It's a local Earth custom."

"Sure you were," she teased.

"For someone who's been hanging around with me for two years, you believe what I say too much."

"Because sometimes what you say and mean is surprising," she said.

"It's the wine," he said.
