Main Campfire, Friday Evening

Once the sun went down, a rather spectacularly large bonfire was lit for the party. No, Merlin was not aware it was now celebrated on the first of May. Calenders change, after all.

There was even a crudely constructed maypole there in case anyone felt the need to dance around it. They did so at their own peril, of course. The mockery that may ensue would probably be great.

"It wouldn't kill you to be approving of him every once in a while. Or at least acknowledge that he's not completely useless," Morgana remarked.

"I'm approving of him when he deserves it," Arthur said, tartly. "Otherwise, it'll just inspire him to worse insubordination."

"Insubordinate or not, I'm glad that he's been here with you, under the circumstances," she said. "You can't tell me it would have been better for you to have been alone all this time."

Arthur took a sip of wine to avoid answering that as best as he could. "It-- helped," he said, finally, in a tone of voice that made it clear he'd rather she didn't advertise the fact. "It would also help if the locals weren't utterly out of their minds," he continued, tapping his finger against his glass thoughtfully. "You've heard about the magic?"

Romeo had said it was probably better to breach this sooner rather than later.

"I have, although I wasn't sure how much of it was truth. But in a place where the rain sparkles, I suppose people using magic shouldn't be surprising. It isn't forbidden here, is it?" she said, after a moment. "They don't seem to forbid much of anything here."

"They don't," Arthur affirmed, meeting her eyes. "They actually seem to be encouraging it. My father can't hear a word of this place."

Which was in fact tacit admission he'd been palling with wizards, yes.

"And here I was, fully prepared to go straight back and tell him. Except, wait a moment, it's entirely possible that we still can't leave." Morgana couldn't help but give Arthur a bit of a withering look. "I understand that he can't find out. Are the magic users here dangerous?"

"Some of them are," he said, shooting her an amused look in return out of pure habit, "And some of them could almost be mistaken for friendly." Beat. "We're looking into getting out of here, Morgana, don't worry, you'll be returned to your finery."

"I'm more worried about what will happen if you continue to be in a place where people don't show you the proper respect," Morgana replied.

"Why, Morgana," Arthur said, shooting her a surprised (if mildly amused) look, "I never took you to be so concerned about the respect due to me."

"I know that it matters to you," Morgana said. "And it will only be a matter of time before you can't stand it anymore."

"Then I'll just have to earn it some other way," he shot back. "I'm not going to let this place beat me."

Arthur had been doing so very well at Fandom.
