Third Floor Common Room - Saturday Morning

Claire was still in an excellent mood after her conversation with Jon last night. She decided to pass on the trip into the city and instead headed for the common room to make breakfast in an effort to meet some new people.

Anyone making their way past the room would be welcome to enjoy some pancakes with blueberry topping, strawberry topping and/or whipped cream. Because, yes, Claire was kind of a dork and went the red, white and blue route.

There was an appropriate holiday movie on the television.

Claire grinned. "Hey, Hurley," she said. "Help yourself to some pancakes."

"I was gonna," Hurley said with a chuckle. "But you probably knew that."

"Well, I figured you weren't here for the movie," Claire joked, completely forgetting the little white lie she had told him about being able to read minds.

"I don't have time for a movie," Hurley admitted. "Kinda got to get to work soon."

"You have to work on a holiday? That stinks," Claire said. She used the spatula to put three fresh pancakes on a plate, which she offered to Hurley.

"Thanks," Hurley said, taking the plate. "I mean, people still buy stuff on holidays, right? And I kinda took yesterday off, so... seems okay to me."

"Yeah, I guess," Claire said. "But it seems unfair that you get to miss out on the fun."

She shrugged. "Did you go to the picnic yesterday?"

Hurley nodded. "I got there kinda late and didn't really get to meet the new kids, though."

"I skipped it," Claire admitted. "Figured I could meet the new kids in the common rooms or classes."

"Yeah, that's a good point," Hurley said. "So I guess you're not big on crowds?"

"Mmm, I don't mind them," Claire said. "I just... wanted to avoid any potentially awkward situations, I guess."

Like running into young, alternate universe versions of her dead uncle.

"Oh," Hurley said. "Like... ex-boyfriends or something?"

"Something like that," Claire said. It was... close enough.

"Yeah, I'd avoid that too," Hurley said. "Uhhh, not that I have any ex-boyfriends. Or... ever will."

Claire chuckled. "There's nothing wrong with that, you know."

"Yeah, I know," Hurley said. "I'm just, like, saying... I mean, yeah."

"Relax, Hurley," she said. "You want some more pancakes before work?"

"Nah, three should be good," Hurley said. "Besides, gotta save room for proper July Fourth food."

"Makes sense," Claire said. "Hopefully someone will grill out later."

"Hopefully," Hurley said. "I'd volunteer, but... I might set my hair on fire or something."

"That would be bad."

"Yeah," Hurley said. "It'd stink for days."

"Plus, you know, it might hurt you." Which was more important in Claire's mind.

"Yeah," Hurley said. "Plus then I'd have to get the rest of my hair cut, and I'd look terrible."

Claire tilted her head and studied him. "Hmm. I don't know if I'd say terrible. But I think it would be weird to see you with short hair."
