Third Floor Common Room - Saturday Morning

Claire was still in an excellent mood after her conversation with Jon last night. She decided to pass on the trip into the city and instead headed for the common room to make breakfast in an effort to meet some new people.

Anyone making their way past the room would be welcome to enjoy some pancakes with blueberry topping, strawberry topping and/or whipped cream. Because, yes, Claire was kind of a dork and went the red, white and blue route.

There was an appropriate holiday movie on the television.

Hurley was on his way to work when he smelled the pancakes.

This did make him stop in to snag some.

"Dude, awesome," he said.

Claire grinned. "Hey, Hurley," she said. "Help yourself to some pancakes."

"I was gonna," Hurley said with a chuckle. "But you probably knew that."

"Well, I figured you weren't here for the movie," Claire joked, completely forgetting the little white lie she had told him about being able to read minds.

"I don't have time for a movie," Hurley admitted. "Kinda got to get to work soon."

"You have to work on a holiday? That stinks," Claire said. She used the spatula to put three fresh pancakes on a plate, which she offered to Hurley.

"Thanks," Hurley said, taking the plate. "I mean, people still buy stuff on holidays, right? And I kinda took yesterday off, so... seems okay to me."

"Yeah, I guess," Claire said. "But it seems unfair that you get to miss out on the fun."

She shrugged. "Did you go to the picnic yesterday?"

Hurley nodded. "I got there kinda late and didn't really get to meet the new kids, though."

"I skipped it," Claire admitted. "Figured I could meet the new kids in the common rooms or classes."

"Yeah, that's a good point," Hurley said. "So I guess you're not big on crowds?"

"Mmm, I don't mind them," Claire said. "I just... wanted to avoid any potentially awkward situations, I guess."

Like running into young, alternate universe versions of her dead uncle.

"Oh," Hurley said. "Like... ex-boyfriends or something?"

Liir hadn't seen Hurley in what seemed like ages, so the notebook was put down as he tipped his head to Claire.

"I think someone's trying to outcook me," he joked mildly, "should I be worried?"

"I wouldn't worry," Hurley said. "It'd take a lot to outcook you, dude."

That actually got a laugh out of him.

"Thank you, Hurley. I feel a little competent again.

"How are you, incidentally? It feels like it's been ages."

"Heh. Uhhh, okay, dude," Hurley said. "I mean, yeah. Stuff could be better, I guess. But yeah."

Way to give an awkward answer, Hurley.

"Yeeeah," Hurley said. "I guess you actually totally would."

"Uhhhhh," Hurley said. "Hoshi is back?"

"She'd gone?" and he blinked a little.

"Sorry. I don't keep up with her much, not since the language club. But it's always good to have people back."

"Oh," Hurley said. "I guess it's kinda easy to lose track of people, sometimes."

"And I'm better at it than most," he admitted with a wry smile.

"Terrible, really. The whole thing with-- yes. I've been preoccupied."

"Amber?" Hurley said, not wanting to pry, but just... see if he had the right idea.
