3rd Floor Common Room [Tuesday, Late Morning]

Effy... was not generally a morning person, by any stretch of the imagination. Not unless she hadn't yet been to bed.

So it was mid-morning at least on a day she didn't have a workshop to think about, before she surfaced enough to pull on some clothes and bothered to find something to eat: toast. Well, toast and tea. A master chef in the making, this one.

The TV was on, for all she claimed she hated that sort of thing. She was watching for the mocking potential of their little dramas. That was all.

"Ah. Canadian TV," Layla said flopping on a couch and kicking her feet up. "Truly nothing finer. They have a marathon of the gas station show after this."

"... The what show?" No, Effy really didn't watch TV much, and they definitely didn't get any of this in England anyway.

And shows about gas stations sounded weird.

"TV sitcom," Layla said with a smirk. "Depicting wacky rural life in Canada. No teenage angst in that one though."

"Better or worse than this?" she had to ask. Subjective or not, it was good to have an opinion.

"You're up early," Alex said, having just been wandering around looking for something interesting to do. Considering he'd really just come down from the roof a few hours ago, going back up seemed silly but that's where'd he'd been headed. "Turning over a new leaf?"

"I'm a closet morning-person," she told him, glancing over her shoulder with a bit of a smirk.

No, she really was not.

"And you never shared that with me?" he asked, affecting mock shock. "That's hurtful."

"I'll bear your delicate feelings in mind next time," she promised. "Didn't realise you liked to know my whole schedule."

Tara didn't have any classes today, so she roamed the common rooms looking for anything interesting -- or something to eat.

She reached into the cabinets with a glance to the television. "Do you know, is there pancake mix?

"I know there's some up on fifth I could get," Hurley said. "If you can't find any here."

"I th-think I found a box," Tara said, holding it up with a smile of triumph. "Did you want some too?"

She wasn't sure she'd met the guy, but it seemed polite to ask.

They'd met, but it had been briefly and over a month ago.

"Nah, I'm probably gonna go out for lunch," Hurley said. "And I had cereal earlier. But thanks."

"Gonna make enough for everyone?" Alex asked, still sprawled on the couch like he own that piece of furniture.

"I c-can," Tara said, a little timidity in her voice. "It's not like it's hard."

She glanced at Alex. "You came up a floor too, didn't you?"

Huh, he'd been mostly kidding but if he could get free food, he would. "Yeah, there was nothing going on down there and I was awake too damn early to try and start something myself."

Effy just shrugged. "Got enough other bizarre crap in there," she noted. Might well be something simpler like pancake mix, not that she'd looked.

"Pancake mix is bizarre?" Tara had to ask, then glanced at the girl again. "Effy? We have classes together."

Effy nodded. Did at least recognise the other girl, even if she wasn't absolutely certain on the name.

"Just figuring, if they have the downright weird, it's a pretty good guess they'll have everything else," she said. "Got a craving for it?"

Hurley was classless today, and a little restless. He'd wandered down, intending to go out for a walk. He stopped when he heard people gathered in the common room. Entering, he waved.

"Hey everybody," he said.

"Place is busy this morning," Alex said in lieu of an actual greeting. "Guess that means I can't smoke."

"Those things rot your brain, you know," Hurley said. It was a lame attempt at an insult.

"They also give you lung cancer," he said and rolled his eyes. "I'm already doomed, why go out unhappy?"

Effy glanced up from her toast, and nodded a sort of greeting in return. "Morning."

She really did pick a busy morning, didn't she?

"Hey," Hurley said. "Uhhh, I'm Hurley."

"Effy," she offered in return, looking him over a moment before offering a bit of a smile.

"Not on this floor normally, are you?" Not the chattiest girl out, but she'd hope to be able to recognise a neighbor all the same.
