The Roof: Saturday Evening

Happy-shiny-upbeat music was rolling off the roof this morning and down through the dorms. Layla had taken the time to string up some old Christmas lights that she had handwavily found at Things Reborn.

Food and drink Moddable of course was spread out on a table.

And of course the entire roof was already decorated in flowers, glitter and streamers.

Layla was already out in the middle of the roof bouncing around to the music and having a grand old time of it.

Clearly the island felt there was need for a party. Layla was just rolling around with it.

[Open to all of course. No OCD. Let the world end dammit.]

"Thank you," Zayne said. "I wouldn't count on it lasting very long. It could become flaily at any time."

"I'll match your flailiness if that helps," Layla offered.

"I'd appreciate that," Zayne said. "I don't think we've met before. I'm Zayne."

"I'm Layla Miller," she replied offering her hand for a handshake. "I know stuff."

"Like how to throw good parties?" Zayne asked as he shook her hand.

"Oh and other stuff too," Layla said with a shrug of indifference. "It's a thing I do."

Zayne couldn't help it. That sounded intriguing. "How do you define 'other stuff'?"

"Oh. Like what people are. What they've done, what they might do," Layla replied. "Like for instance I know you're a Jedi Padawan."

"Not bad," Zayne said, pretty impressed. "But the braid and robes might have clued you in to that if you knew enough about the Jedi from other people here."

Layla shrugged. "Maybe. Would they know that your Master is Lucien Draay? Or that the Madalorian Wars are going on in your world?"

"No, actually," Zayne said. "You're good."

"It's a gift," Layla said with a shrug. "Jedi have their own gifts as well."

"They do," Zayne said. "And I think this is the first conversation I've had about the Jedi where I haven't had to explain all about that stuff."

"It certainly allows you to cut to the heart of an introduction," Layla replied. "Without all that lengthy talk about the Force. How it binds you and yadda yadda yadda."

"But the introductions usually involve you explaining how you know stuff, so that shifts the balance in the other direction," Zayne noted.

"Well once people know what I know then they usually get a little creeped out and the conversation ends," Layla said a little sadly. "But those are the risks."

"I don't get creeped out as easily as a lot of people, so you're going to have to do worse than that to get rid of me," Zayne said.

"Well it's just good to know you're made of sterner stuff," Layla smirked. "Never know when that will come in handy."

"Well, it is easy, being from another galaxy and all," Zayne said. "That gives me a huge head start."

"Yeah, it's a bit quieter here than in your galaxy," Layla nodded. "But I'm betting you don't get syrup raining from the sky."

"No. Or turning into a girl or any of that stuff," Zayne said. "But people with special powers and aliens? I can manage that."

"It certainly makes the transition to Fandom a bit easier," Layla agreed. "I'd had to have been normal and showing up here."

"It almost seems worse for some of the less 'normal' students," Zayne said. "I think my little sibling took my explanation of Fandom better than my roommate, and my roommate's from a world with magic."

"Hmm. True. Though perhaps your roommate is just a tad inflexible about his world and dimension."

"Probably," Zayne said. "My last roommate was, too, but she came around eventually. So I have hope for Mat."
