Fifth Floor Common Room [evening]

Sookie had spent part of the evening on the phone with her Gran and with Tara, trying to get either of them to come visit for Parents' Weekend. The result -- aside from promises that both of them would try to make it -- was a craving for something from home.

Which was brought her out to the common room to bake a pie. This served dual purposes:

a) It smelled great and would likely provide her with company as a result, and

b) Now she had something to eat while watching Yell, which was apparently from her time but she'd still never seen. So pie seemed like a good accompaniment to being curled up on the couch and staring wide-eyed at the screen. (It was scary, okay.)

"My literature teacher." Come on, Sookie, catch up. "Oh! Oh, that's his first name!" There we go. "I just don't like calling adults by their first names, but his last name is like, Dèmon, which is weird, too, and he has us call him Drake and stuff? But he's nice! He made me be Guinevere for a class project the other day."

And an image sprung to mind, of course, of Sookie in one of those stereotypical medieval-style dresses and wow pretty, yeah, that was just the slightest hint of a blush coloring his cheeks there. "I can't do that either," he admitted. "The adults by their first name thing." Especially when that adult was Captain Freaking America, holy crap.

She caught the blush, and okay, when a boy spontaneously blushed around you and you had access to their thoughts, it was kind of hard not to look. Particularly if it was, you know, the most adorable boy you knew.

So she peeked, and now Sookie was blushing a little too, though she didn't helpfully tell him that he wasn't far off at all on what she'd been put in, either. "I just think it's disrespectful," she said instead. "I mean, they're our teachers. I can't just talk to 'em like they're gonna come in here and hang out with us."

"Exactly!" Bobby agreed with a nod. "It's like- there's nothing wrong with being friendly with teachers, I guess, but it's not like we're equals."

"I was always taught that even if an adult was really familiar, you'd still call 'em Mister or Miss whatever," Sookie said, nodding. "Like my best friend's mama is Miss Lettie Mae. It's rude otherwise. And even if we're old enough that we're sort of young adults, they're still our elders and all, y'know?"

"Professor Xavier is always Professor Xavier," Bobby nodded. Even if he did sometimes just call him 'X' in his head. "And Agent Duncan." He frowned a bit. "This place can make things like that weird sometimes, though," he had to admit.

"How so?" she asked curiously, glancing at the television to make sure nothing scary was going to jump out at them while they were distracted.

"I have a couple friends back home who're adults in Jean's world," Bobby told her. The whole 'Scott's kid is the mayor' thing was still a bit too fresh in his head to try and deal with, so he was just gonna ignore that for now. "So like, it's really weird to hear her say Mr. Worthington and Mr. McCoy, you know?"

Not personally, but she could sort of relate what with Jason. "Wait. How is that possible? Are you an adult for her?"

"That's the even weirder part! I'm like twelve or something there!" Bobby made a face.

"Awwww!" Sookie couldn't help it. "No wonder y'all act like siblings."

Bobby snorted. "The Jean back home treats me like I'm twelve most of the time too. So I hardly noticed a difference."

"D'you have actual siblings? Biological ones, I mean?" she wondered.

"Nah unless we're talking movie canon. Or Amazing Friends. WTF random siblings," Bobby shrugged. "My parents always said one was enough work. Especially after, well-" a quick glance to make sure Hurley wasn't looking, then a layer of frost appeared on one hand. "That."

"Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's why I don't have any younger siblings," Sookie noted. "Jason doesn't have powers or anything. Have you always been able to do that?"

Bobby shook his head. "I- manifested I think is the word everyone uses? About four years ago. Before then I was just a brat," he grinned sheepishly at her.

"That is shocking," Sookie said seriously. "I can't believe that you'd ever misbehave!"

Bobby couldn't help it, he laughed. "Sookie," he said after a few moments. "Did you hear the announcements today?"

"Nope," she said, thinking back. "I think I missed 'em! Why, somethin' interesting happen?"

"Me and Kyle and George got called to the Vice Principal's office. He totally busted us for this prank we pulled last week." Tooootal troublemaker.

"Bobby!" She was admonishing for a moment before eagerly leaning forward. "What'd you do?"

"Weeeee kinda took Rose's door off the wall and then covered the hole with drywall to make it look like there was never a door there." He gave Sookie his best innocent look.

Okay, she really really wanted to scold him.

But she kind of just ended up giggling. "That's really good! I mean, I'm sure Rose didn't think so, but she...probably deserved it, right?" She arched an eyebrow. "She did do something to deserve it, right? I'm not gonna find my own door the next victim of disappearance?"

"She totally did," Bobby said, blushing briiiiight red as he thought about how gullible he'd been. "I don't prank people without good reason. Well, except Scott, and even then, it's because he's in desperate need of lightening up sometimes."

See, now he was blushing again, and she'd already peeked once. So she had to be a normal person and ask, "Why'd you go all red? She did somethin' bad, huh?"
