She'd managed to forget that there was a party going on until late enough that she'd have felt sort of weird showing up—not to mention 'bout the fact that Ino was a bit weirded out by the idea of showing up at some strange grown-up's place for a party—and so, with her Santa hat perched jauntily on her head, she'd wandered into her common room to make hot chocolate.

It was totally seasonal. And so was the candy cane she was nibbling on. The candy was obviously the best part of this holiday, especially for someone who only had the vaguely concept of what the holiday entailed beyond 'shiny presents'.

But presents? Were pretty awesome too. She leaned against the counter and sipped her hot chocolate idly.

Alien tactical computer was a bit overboard for a marshmallow barter, yes.

"Oh?" Ino asked archly. "Can you prove the cookies are magical?"

[weldedtomyspine]

... oh, that was canny of her.

"Um... yes?" Yeah. That was really convincing.

[intraspective]

"Prove it," she insisted, grinning at that. "Or else I've got to keep holding these marshmallows hostage."

[weldedtomyspine]

"Fine then." Jaime ate a cookie. "Wow! THESE ARE AMAZING! They must be magical."

He was trying really hard to keep a straight face.

[intraspective]

Ino wasn't even trying to keep a straight face at that and laughed.

"Amazing taste ain't magical," she pointed out. "My brother's a cook and his are awesome but they ain't in and of themselves magical 'less he's doing something weird with the fruit again."

[weldedtomyspine]

"Well, these are magical," Jaime insisted. Unconvincingly.

[intraspective]

"I don't believe you," she answered pertly. "You'll have to find some other reason for me to change my mind 'bout the two for one."

[weldedtomyspine]

"Well... maybe I could make you hot chocolate...?" Ignore the fact that she already had some.

[intraspective]

Hers was made from a package, though.

"How would you make this hot chocolate?" she asked suspiciously.

[weldedtomyspine]

"What kind of question is that?" Jaime asked, mock-offended. "With chocolate and milk, obviously."

Assuming he didn't scald the milk, of course.

[intraspective]

Ooooh!

"Well, then," she said loftily. "I suppose I could part with some marshmallows for hot chocolate like that."

[weldedtomyspine]

"Hmmm... and I suppose that someone will have to watch my cookies while I'm making hot chocolate..."

[intraspective]

"I can!" she volunteered. "I have experience being a guard!"

[weldedtomyspine]

"Well, that's awfully convenient!" Jaime held out his cookies as he headed to rummage around for ingredients.

[intraspective]

Ino snagged them, making sure not to drop the marshmallows or her drink and promptly fussed with it until she got a cookie out.

Victory was sweet!

And chocolatey!

"It is," she said agreeably. "And these ain't magic but they're pretty good."

[weldedtomyspine]

"Oh, they're totally magic," Jaime insisted. "After all, eating one let you meet someone totally awesome." He meant himself.

[intraspective]

"I'm awesomer," she informed him lightly. "And it's Ino, by the way."

[weldedtomyspine]

"Jaime," he grinned. He paused for a moment, wondering if she was going to make the 'hi me' joke. Apparently most people in Fandom hadn't heard it pronounced that way.

"Nice to meet you."

[intraspective]

"I suppose I should say the same?" she teased him, perching up on the counter. "It might even be true."

[weldedtomyspine]

"You should. I mean... I am awesome."

[intraspective]

"And yet," Ino mused, "not awesome enough for a hat apparently."

[weldedtomyspine]

"Maybe my hat's so awesome that it's invisible."

...

...

Yep. That was his comeback.

[intraspective]

See, that meant Ino had to bounce over and try to wave her hand through the air over his head.

"Uh huh, really."

[weldedtomyspine]

"And... it... um... phases through people's hands?" It was an awesome hat, after all.

[intraspective]

Ino eyed him. "I think you're a bit of a liar."
