Really, it was way too fucking nice to smoke in his room tonight. And honestly, he'd been spending so much time in there, trying to let his bruises heal that he was sick of it. He felt fine, it was warm and he hadn't been up to the roof in awhile. It was the perfect day to do that.

So, after pushing onto the roof, he had a cigarette lit almost immediately before hopping up on the roof's ledge and laying flat on his back, letting the setting sun warm his face. He almost felt relaxed. It'd been a shitty month so far save for a few things but sometimes it was just nice to get some fresh air.

Cigarette smoke notwithstanding.

"Hey, I've got eyes," he said, nodding. "And I'm not that fucking dumb. Awesome knows awesome, after all."

"To mentor them." Oh god, even saying that word made him gag. No way was he any kind of mentor. "For you, I'd do it just to up your awesome with mine since I've got so much of it."

Rose snorted. "Yeah, I can so see you taking care of the poor non-awesome. You're such a patient, teacherly sort of guy." But she was rolling her eyes. "You're just crazy if you think your awesome can come even close to mine."

"You don't think it is?" he asked, shaking his and tsk'ing her lightly. "That just proves that you're not awesome. Can't see what's right in front of you."

"Didn't say you weren't," Rose retorted. "Just that you're not waaaaaaaay more awesome than me."

"Except I am," he said, smug as usual. "It's just that you're not awesome enough to realize that."

Rose smirked, leaning back on her elbows. "Prove it."

"I'm proving it right now," he said, smirking and puffing away on his cigarette. "How's the beau?"

Rose glared at him. "There's no beau. What are we, French?"

"Lover?" he asked, ignoring her question.

That was a bad question, yes, and it took her a second to answer.

"Seriously? Lover? Now you just sound like a bad romance novel."

"You just hesitated," Alex pointed out, sitting up some. "And you don't hesitate if you've got a prepared comeback so something caught you there. Did you bang him, Rose? Like you wanted?"

"Maaaaaaaaaybe. Wouldn't you like to know," Rose smirked. "You're all kinds of curious, aren't you."

"I'm not curious." He was but he covered it well. "You hesitate so that means you did. You wouldn't hesitate if the answer was no. I know you, Rose."

"Whatever," she said. "You wouldn't ask if you weren't curious. I know you too." She shrugged, unable not to grin a little. "Yeah, sure, fine, you're right."

"Of course I am." Okay, he was a little surprised she'd just come out and told him. "Well, now I feel better. All the sexual tension I left you with is gone and you can go back to being less uptight."

He was still gonna be a jerk, oh yes.

Rose rolled her eyes at him and smacked his foot lightly. "Yeah, Alex, I'm like CRAZY uptight. You knew it."

"Hey, when that sexual tension starts eating at you, it makes you a little defensive," he taunted.

"Just because you can't handle more than a day or two without sex doesn't mean I'm that wimpy," she shot back.

"I don't have to handle a day or two without sex." Okay, he did, but Rose didn't need to know that. "Doesn't mean you're not wimpy either."

Rose snorted, confident in many things. Including that fact she wasn't wimpy. "Yeah, like you say, never a day I'm not training. I'm TOTALLY a wuss."

"You're all soft edges, Rose," he said, going right along with her even if she was being sarcastic. Sometimes, that worked.

"Defensive," Alex said, smirking. "Just means I hit a nerve and was right in there somewhere."
