Outside the Dorms, Very Very Late Monday Evening/Too Early Tuesday Morning

It was raining.

It was not raining very hard, but it was definitely raining at the insane time the sirens went off across the school. The lawn outside was slowly but surely turning into a wet mess, and the grass was just high enough in some places that it might leave wet splotches on an unsuspecting passer-by's pants.

Clearly this was a great time for a fire drill.

It was clearly also a great time to test the new volume on the sirens, which blared even harder than they had ever done before. Hope you didn't have to take any tests in the morning, kids!

[[ has a firedrill! students, have at. ]]

"Speaking of," Cade said, "I have a job. In a store."

He was enormously impressed with himself.

"No shit?" Sparkle grinned a bit at that. Hey, he knew how big a deal it was. He was still pretty impressed with the fact that he'd managed to score one for himself, after all. "Which store? What kind of job?"

They trust you with the merchandise?

"I work at that electronics place!" Cade said gleefully.

Suckers.
myownface: (O Rly?)

"Daaaaamn." Sparkle looked pretty pleased, himself. "I work at the clothing store, but the boss can probably like make my spleen implode with the power of her brain, so I haven't taken shit yet."

Such a shame.

"There's a cupboard under the counter for booze and I get to burn ugly clothes in the back room, though. What're the books of your place?"

[identity profile] makemyownway.livejournal.com 2012-09-03 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"No booze," Cade said, "but no one said I couldn't bring my own--"

Mostly because most employees didn't need that pointed out, CADE. "--and everything seems pretty portable. I'll see what my first paycheck looks like, then reassess."
myownface: (Relaaaax)

[personal profile] myownface 2012-09-03 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"See if they're payin' you enough to make it worthwhile to keep your job?"

Yeah, Sparkle totally liked the way Cade's brain worked. He was a weird chocolate-deprived spaceman after his own heart, it seemed.

[... Perks, not books. I can totally type, just pretend that last ping of mine said the right thing all along. *waves hand*]

[identity profile] makemyownway.livejournal.com 2012-09-03 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
"Or have to go to the effort of framing someone else," Cade agreed. "I've never really gotten a paycheck before. Do I need a bank account or something?"
myownface: (Dressed Up)

[personal profile] myownface 2012-09-03 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"You're probably going to want one if you want to cash it," Sparkle replied with a shrug. "I'm sure there are, like Money-Mart type places that'll change your cheque for cash, but they usually do it for a percentage of the damn thing, you know? Bank account."

Bank account!

[identity profile] makemyownway.livejournal.com 2012-09-03 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"Money's not really useful if you can't spend it," Cade declared. "I guess I'll find a bank or something."

A tiny step toward responsible adulthood! Ish!
myownface: (O Rly?)

[personal profile] myownface 2012-09-03 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Ish!

"There's one on the island," Sparkle noted. "They're not too picky about who gets an account there, what with all the different realities and timelines and whatever that people are coming from."

Because wow, would it have ever sucked trying to get a bank account otherwise.

[identity profile] makemyownway.livejournal.com 2012-09-03 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the two of them didn't look like the most solid credit risks.

"I'll find them after class tomorrow," Cade said. "Today? Whatever karking time it is."
myownface: (... huh.)

[personal profile] myownface 2012-09-03 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"Stupid-thirty in the freaking morning," Sparkle grumbled, running his hand through his hair again to get his bangs from his eyes. "And I have half a mind to head into town and see if I can find an unlocked door somewhere, by this point."

[identity profile] makemyownway.livejournal.com 2012-09-03 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"Mind if I tag along?" Cade asked.
myownface: (O Rly?)

[personal profile] myownface 2012-09-03 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"Nah, not at all," Sparkle replied. "Better odds of not getting picked up by the troopers or something for public indecency if there are two of us running around in our underwear."

... It made sense enough to Sparkle, anyhow. And wasn't it funny how being arrested for public indecency was a bigger concern for him than breaking and entering?

"I guess the screaming freaking siren would probably help back our story up, too."

[identity profile] makemyownway.livejournal.com 2012-09-03 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"Assuming they don't think we set it off," Cade said, "but I think we're too smart to get caught."
myownface: (Grin!)

[personal profile] myownface 2012-09-03 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's what I like to hear!" Look, people didn't call Sparkle too smart for anything very often. "To town?"

[identity profile] makemyownway.livejournal.com 2012-09-04 01:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"Too town!" Cade said with as much enthusiasm as you can muster at Oh-My-Kark O'Clock.

Which wasn't much.
