Fifth Floor Common Room, ALL DAY (and Night) [Wednesday]

Having a single now was nice, since it meant Minako didn't have to try being tidy around another person, but it got really lonely really fast.

Hence the fact she'd taken over the common room, making a HUGE bowl of punch and setting out chips, boxes of pop, and (store-bought) cookies before digging around in the closet to find the mats to hook up DDR on the meta for XBox.

"Sweet!" she cheered, as she held up the guitar for a different game. "You can be later. Gotta warm up before rocking out!"

"Dance, yes. To this particular game?" Mara smiled a little ruefully. "Not at all."

"It's really easy," Kathy said, which wasn't entirely the truth. "I mean, if you're good at dancing already. To play, you just step on the pad--" she pointed "--in time to the arrows on the screen. You gets points based on how closely your steps match the rhythm."

She pulled up a beginner song, putting it on Easy mode. "I can show you, or you can try with me? The screen splits for two players."

"Let me try with you," Mara said. "I'm a quick study."

"There's actually a tutorial mode, but I don't think you want to spend three minutes learning how to two-step," Kathy said with a nod, as the opening strains of Cutie Chaser started. "If there are any steps you can't figure out, like eighths or gallops, you can ask and I can demonstrate."

She glanced over to Mara as the first arrows appeared on the screen. "Ready?"

"I might know them by other names," Mara said, bouncing on the balls of her feet. "Let's go."

"The signals can be a little confusing for them, but they're not that hard to figure out," Kathy promised.

The arrows started moving and the announcer told them to start dancing. It was harder for Kathy to get the Easy moves than she expected; after years of dancing on Hard and higher she was constantly preparing to do steps that didn't actually exist on this level.

"Though if there was some way to get the announcer to shut up, that'd be great," she grumbled as he chided her for missing a step.

"Yes," Mara gritted out, finding herself about a half-step behind. "I've been dancing since I could walk, shut up," she hissed at it.

"That's about as long as I've been doing gymnastics," Kathy said, going for a gallop that wasn't there and missing the...single...slow...step to the front she was supposed to do. "I'm Kathy, by the way. Junior, been here about a year now. You?"

"Mara," she replied. "I got here with the latest crop of newcomers." She made a face at the game. "This is too slow."
