There were two reasons for the party being organized in the second floor common room tonight. The official one was that Sparkle and Alana were both campaigning for seats on the Student Council and needed to get their names out there.

The less official one was that Minako's fifth floor party the week before had been amazing, and the hosts wanted to prove other floors could host something just about as awesome.

Other than the VOTE FOR ALANA and VOTE FOR SPARKLE posters taped to the walls, the set-up was standard for a dorm party. They'd filled a table with pizza and snacks (including, at Sparkle's insistence, homemade sparkler-topped cupcakes), and Alana had set up her tablet to play a mix of trancey pop music. The electronica battled for ear space with an intentionally campy sci-fi movie playing on the TV.

Everyone in the student body had gotten an emailed invitation, so now it was just a matter of seeing who would show up.

Having a single now was nice, since it meant Minako didn't have to try being tidy around another person, but it got really lonely really fast.

Hence the fact she'd taken over the common room, making a HUGE bowl of punch and setting out chips, boxes of pop, and (store-bought) cookies before digging around in the closet to find the mats to hook up DDR on the meta for XBox.

"Sweet!" she cheered, as she held up the guitar for a different game. "You can be later. Gotta warm up before rocking out!"

Oh. My. God.

Karina was usually a fairly early riser anyway, but the bugs and their terrible, terrible song had driven her out of the dorms earlier than she usually left them.

She took up sulky residence on the deck and settled in to a) glower at the dorms and b) nurse her grievance that not only was it awful that there were singing bugs everywhere inside, but that they weren't even good at singing.

And those lyrics!

Why did those exist?! Who thought they would be a good idea? Really? Really?

Eventually she was going to flee further from the dorms but right now that was too much like effort for the morning. Ugh.

The kitchen in the common room wasn't that different from the kitchen in Celia's cottage. Everything was a little more modern and clean but other than that, Nathan recognized almost everything. The common room kitchen reminded him of Gabriel's kitchen more than anything else. His friend had spent a lot of time in there, cooking food and letting Nathan help out where he could.

Being inside during the day was tolerable and Nathan found that the buzzing wasn't too intense right now so he'd wandered into the common room and over to the kitchen with the thought of cooking in mind. He didn't know too many recipes since it wasn't like Celia or Gabriel had cookbooks lying around (not that he could read them anyway) but he remembered how to make a few things.

His stomach grumbled and Nathan decided that he might as well give cooking in this strange place a try. He slid off his gloves, making sure to pull his sleeves down over the tattoo on one wrist and over the scars on the other but leaving the small tattoo on his finger visible for the most part. He hadn't taken off the scarf but he'd left the sunglasses in his room today.

A soup of some kind would be the easiest thing and he remembered sitting in his cage at Celia's with a steaming bowl of soup and a huge chunk of bread. It'd been a rare time when he'd been able to forget about what he was going through. So, he went to work on a soup that'd be filled with available vegetables and meats. He hadn't bothered with the television since it'd only make his head hurt and he didn't need that while he was trying to concentrate.

[Open. Nathan's actually a fairly good cook so if you want some soup, it won't be bad, I promise.]

If Karina had any idea that the roof was commonly used for brooding or feeling terrible or shit like that, she probably wouldn't have gone up to it.

Okay, no, she totally would have just to prove that it didn't have to be used for that. And that she was judging everyone who felt the need to come up to deliberately suffer, especially in winter, when they were already feeling bad.

She on the other hand, had just wanted to see the view. So that was what she was doing, sitting precariously on the edge of the roof, kicking her feet idly, and thinking that the view wasn't bad at all.

And if she felt like singing while on the roof, well, people could cope with that too. So there. Singing was great.

The wind was pretty good at carrying her voice too. Karina could appreciate that.

[Open as a roof is!]

Okay, so the weather on Fandom was slightly less bone-tinglingly cold than the mainland, but that was really all there was to be said for it. One thing it wasn't, for instance, was ideal weather for anyone to stand around in for prolonged periods of time.

Which was why the Powers That Be had decided it was the exact ideal time to have a fire drill. Loud noise rang through the dorms at exactly 2 AM; good morning, students.

Hope you had time to snag a coat.

Elsa had woken up today knowing straightaway that her powers appeared to have gone into some sort of... remission or something. There was no frost in her bedsheets, there was no need for her usual 'conceal, don't feel,' mantra. And, in a fit of daring, she'd left her gloves on her nightstand before making her way out into the common room. If it was safe to be social today, she was going to make the most of it.

By some miracle, she'd figured out how to work the kettle (the fact that the plug looked about the right size to fit into the outlet had been a good hint), and she'd made herself some tea. She hadn't quite worked her way up to the point of turning on the television yet, but she had found a ball of yarn and a crochet hook, and while she'd never really tried crochet before, she seemed to be a good way along in making the first of a pair of long lace gloves. It was remarkable what a person could do with their hands when they weren't wearing thick gloves over them all of the time, apparently.

As she crocheted, she hummed a little to herself. Today was shaping up to be a pleasant day, and she'd worry about what was going on with her powers later.

[OOC: That moment when two people post the same common room at the same time. Changed to afternoon, and open!]
