Fifth Floor Common Room, ALL DAY (and Night) [Wednesday]

Having a single now was nice, since it meant Minako didn't have to try being tidy around another person, but it got really lonely really fast.

Hence the fact she'd taken over the common room, making a HUGE bowl of punch and setting out chips, boxes of pop, and (store-bought) cookies before digging around in the closet to find the mats to hook up DDR on the ~~meta for~~ XBox.

"Sweet!" she cheered, as she held up the guitar for a different game. "You can be later. Gotta warm up before rocking out!"

"No no, it's my fault," he said, shaking his head. "I was fine too. I spent some time in a pit full of plastic balls. Something I'd never actually do as myself."

He didn't see the point really. "But, that wasn't really caused me to be ill and lose my appetite. With me, if I stay inside a building too long, any building, I get sick. Like I've a nasty case of the flu. It took awhile for my grandmother to figure it out but eventually she did. It's because I'm a half code. Half black witch, half white witch."

It was easier to say to people who he knew wouldn't be coming after him for what he was. It was refreshing to share. "My body thrives on being outside being of the black witch side of me. I sleep in the preserve a lot and if I'm indoors, I try to keep it brief or stay near windows or I'll get sick. It's just how I am."

"That's ....huh." That was all Nathan was going to get for a moment, just because it was a lot to assimilate. Anders had heard some Dailish felt disconnected from nature in cities, but that was a preference -- not a medical necessity. "How do black witches manage it? Can they just spend their whole lives in the woods?"

"I think so. I honestly don't know much about them," he said with a shrug. "I just know my father was one. Still is one, actually. They're not really popular where I come from so people speak about them in hushed tones or not at all."

Or in extremely hateful ways if they were his sister. Ah, siblings. "Most of them are hunted and killed. Hence one of the reasons I'm here. I'd like to stay alive."

"I'd like for you to stay alive too," Anders told him. "But -- that must make it even worse,if there's no one at home you can really ask about it. I'm sorry."

"It's okay," Nathan said, shrugging his shoulders. "I've actually gotten used to it. Sleeping outside is a nice way to see things I'd never see if I stayed indoors. And I heal quickly even if I do get sick. It never stays for long."

Thankfully.

"But, I'm talking too much about myself, sorry," he said, abashed. "Sorry. What's been going on with you lately? I'm glad to hear the last weekend didn't touch you too badly."

[Sorry, I crashed HARD.]

"I don't mind you talking about yourself," Anders said. He still felt concerned, but Nathan seemed ready to change the subject, so he didn't press beyond that. "And I've been doing well. I'm supposed to go help Eleanor with something back home this weekend. I can't decide if I'm excited or nervous. I think both."

Nathan appreciated that Anders didn't press for anymore. He'd be glad to talk more but he also didn't want to bring anyone down at a party.

"Is it going to be dangerous for you?" he wondered since he'd mentioned being nervous. "Or just something fun that you haven't done before?"

Anders shrugged. "Eleanor thinks it might be dangerous," he said. "But it mostly sounds like she isn't sure what we'll find. It'll be interesting, at least. She's from this underwater city and she wants to go back to try to rescue a woman who helped raise her."

"Underwater city?" Nathan repeated, sounding confused. "I didn't think it was possible for anyone but fish to manage that. You'll be able to breathe there, right?"

"I think they built it under bubbles so it's safe?" Anders said, furrowing his brow. He hadn't exactly thought to ask how Rapture worked. "I'm not sure. I should probably ask Eleanor if we'll need any special equipment."

"You're remarkably calm about it," Nathan complimented, smiling a bit. "I think I'd be worried about the unknown. It's too bad I can't share my ability to heal up or I'd give it to you."

"I am worried, but I'm at a party," Anders told him. "No point dwelling on it. And I'm a healer too, so I should be able to take care of that unless something truly horrific happens."

He was counting on nothing truly horrific happening. He wasn't much use as a healer if his head was bitten off, for example.

"Sorry," Nathan said, cheeks flaming a bit. "I didn't mean to make you think of anything bad happening while you're at a party. I'm not the best in social situations like this."

Don't worry about it," Anders said, reaching to tap Nathan on the shoulder. "Besides, I told you it might be dangerous. it'd be strange if you said 'trala, have fun!'".

"You might have fun, though," Nathan said, trying to be a bit more optimistic. "New things can be pretty exciting if nothing's immediately trying to kill you. You'll have to tell me about it when you get back. I don't think I'll ever see something like that in my time."

"If Eleanor decides to go sightseeing again, I'll ask if you can come along," Anders promised. "I'll find you when I get back either way."

"Check the preserve first," he said with a little nod, "because that's probably where I'll be. It's peaceful out there. I like to sit and stare at the stars at night."

"The stars are nice," Anders agreed. "But don't you ever get cold?"

"Sometimes," Nathan said, shrugging one shoulder. "But, I've been looking for some sheepskins to sleep under. That's what I used when I was staying with a friend back home. I slept on his balcony and the sheepskins kept me warm. They're really warm and comfortable."
