Second Floor Common Room, Monday After Classes

There were two reasons for the party being organized in the second floor common room tonight. The official one was that Sparkle and Alana were both campaigning for seats on the Student Council and needed to get their names out there.

The less official one was that Minako's fifth floor party the week before had been amazing, and the hosts wanted to prove other floors could host something just about as awesome.

Other than the VOTE FOR ALANA and VOTE FOR SPARKLE posters taped to the walls, the set-up was standard for a dorm party. They'd filled a table with pizza and snacks (including, at Sparkle's insistence, homemade sparkler-topped cupcakes), and Alana had set up her tablet to play a mix of trancey pop music. The electronica battled for ear space with an intentionally campy sci-fi movie playing on the TV.

Everyone in the student body had gotten an emailed invitation, so now it was just a matter of seeing who would show up.

"Of course not. This is just advertising," Gwen said. "Plus you're going to have stalker rodents talking about this later, so."

"That's true. You think they like cupcakes? Or I could try to bribe 'em with extra booze when I go in to read notes, though my radio day is a day too late..."

He was officially overthinking this.

"Maybe I'll just bribe Cecil to put in a good word for me, instead. That could work."

"That'd probably be easier," Gwen said with a little smile.

"Bribing Cecil it's gonna be, then," Sparkle decided, giving a firm nod of his head. "So, how've you been doing? Hanging in there?"

He'd maybe worried a bit since last party.

"Good," she said, honestly. "I mean, things were kind of weird there, but hanging in there's definitely happening."

"Kind of weird is kind of this place's modus operandi," Sparkle sighed, wrinkling his nose. "If I knew people were heaping it all on that night, I probably would've kept some of the crazier shit to myself. But you're settled in okay besides all that?"

"Yeah. I told my guardian what this place is like and we had a great talk. And after that I got myself mostly unpacked, I painted... Going good so far."

Gwen in a nutshell: freakout freakout freakout totally fine.

Not a bad way to be! Sparkle tended to skip the 'totally fine' step and linger somewhere around 'repression en route to meltdown,' so she had one up on him.

"Oooo, a painter! Nice. What sort of painting do you do? I... can't paint to save my life. Like, seriously."

"Oh, neither can I. I just slathered a bunch of black on the walls," Gwen said. "Believe it or not, it makes things really dark."

It had not been one of her better decisions, no.

"Ahaha, yeah, I never would've seen that coming," Sparkle cackled, giving his hands a clap. "But you know what you can do with black walls? Get like a shitload of neon stuff and a black light..."

Her room could be rescued yet!
