Second Floor Common Room; Friday Evening [09/01].

The need for parties and the social status assumed to go along with them was probably the easiest part of roboSummer's programming, easily the best lynch pin that connected the two Summer, that would make someone look at her eagerness to host a party and thinking yup, definitely Summer, nothing wrong here! She'd decked the place out with glitter and streamers, started pumping some sweet tunes, and made sure all the food and beverages were readily available and spread out on the table and counters.

And now all she needed was people.

...she really hoped there would be people, but, unlike OG Summer, she would definitely survive if there weren't.

Whoo, party!

"... I could have used that class about a year ago," Peridot said, after a pause.

Maybe she'd still have her limb enhancers.

The Earth might've blown up, though. That would've kind of sucked.

"I probably could have used it when I was eleven," Tip agreed. "But hey, we got by anyway, right?"

"We are still here," Peridot agreed, though her smile had a kind of bittersweet little twist to it. "There are worse places to be."

That didn't make her miss those places any less, but there were.

"Still can't be easy living somewhere where nothing's actually built for you, huh," Tip said. "J.Lo has trouble with that sometimes, too."

Peridot nodded a little.

"Homeworld has Gems as small as your thumb and as tall as the tallest buildings on the island, and we've built everything we need to accommodate them all in their respective functions," she sighed. "That's what my limb enhancers were for. I didn't expect that life on Earth would become so much more complicated without them, too."

"Have you tried building new limb enhancers?"

Surely someone on this island could do it, even if Peridot herself couldn't.

Peridot gave her shoulders a shrug and looked down at her toes kind of awkwardly.

"Steven gave me two paint cans to stand on. He called them stilts," she offered. "... I was really terrible at walking on those."

So, that was a no.

". . . Okay, but what you've talked about with your limb enhancers sounds way fancier than stilts."

"I could fly with them," Peridot muttered. "Run up walls, they had built-in weaponry in case of emergencies, and my screen could access all the information that a Gem of my rank was authorized to see. Stilts don't even begin to make up for that loss."

But they sure made it easier to feed ants to lizards.

"Okay, so getting all of that in with the stuff we have on the island might be a little hard. But I bet you could do some of it."

"I might be able to manage flight again," Peridot noted, looking thoughtful. "And maybe, if everything is metal..."

Oh, there was a devious little smile on her face, now.

"That could work!" 'Dot, you had to start thinking out loud. "Maybe not for the informational archives, of course, but if I built in WiFi I could at the very least use my phone, and weaponry... would be harder to manage, granted. Especially of the caliber that Homeworld provided. And I still have one of my gravity connectors!" A pause. "Feet!"

Honestly, Tip just assumed 'that' referred to the idea of building her own limb enhancers.

"Metal is good. Very sturdy." She had no idea about Peridot's burgeoning abilities, no. "And hey, you can study that then to get extra ideas. Though . . . I mean, weapons are useful, but you might want to be careful if you're trying to build them into things. . . ."

Peridot gave Tip a little smirk.

"I'm a technician," she pointed out. "I know what I'm doing."

She was going to blow her own foot off.

"You're totally going to end up accidentally blowing your hair off."

What? Not only was Tip's best friend another alien technician -- one who had accidentally broadcast the Boov's location to their most dreaded enemy in the universe -- but she'd also had her hair accidentally blown off by a weapon. More than once. It was a thing.

Peridot considered that for a moment.

"I'll wear protective gear over my gem."

That was the important part, anyway.

Tip thought of the spooky eyed Peridot from the other universe and nodded. "Good plan."

"I certainly thought so," Peridot agreed. "And the rest... I might have to start drafting plans for the rest. The materials I have at my disposal might limit me, especially when it comes to weaponry, but at the very least, maybe I'll be able to take a class without having to sit on top of a table to participate."

"Definitely. Though . . . I mean, you'd think in a school like this where the student population can vary so much," see, e.g., Peridot and Sidon, "they'd have a variety of tables and desks and things for students of all sizes."

"You'd think," Peridot sighed. "But here we are, with Sidon picking me up so that I can feed ants to lizards, and not a single chair that he fits in."
