Second Floor Common Room; Friday Evening [09/01].

The need for parties and the social status assumed to go along with them was probably the easiest part of roboSummer's programming, easily the best lynch pin that connected the two Summer, that would make someone look at her eagerness to host a party and thinking yup, definitely Summer, nothing wrong here! She'd decked the place out with glitter and streamers, started pumping some sweet tunes, and made sure all the food and beverages were readily available and spread out on the table and counters.

And now all she needed was people.

...she really hoped there would be people, but, unlike OG Summer, she would definitely survive if there weren't.

"Ahh, I did not know if that was a skill you had that I should be jealous of," Hyacinthe said with a laugh. Considering their current group had a seven foot tall shark man in it, he didn't feel bad for thinking someone might have a power to force grow their own hair. "I had an incident with honey once as a lad where such thing would have come in handy."

"I've had my hair shot off by space guns twice," Tip said. "If I knew the secret I'd bottle it and sell it."

"Perhaps the better plan would be to avoid 'space-guns,'" Hyacinthe said, trying to sound serious. "Though I suppose knowing how well you looked without hair made choosing a much cooler style for the summer a much easier decision."

"You'd be surprised how hard that is to do when your best friend is VIP on another planet," Tip said. "And, well, the choice is pretty easy when it's 'cooler hair cut' or 'weird reverse mohawk'."

"I'm afraid I don't know what a regular mohawk is," Hyacinthe said with a sheepish shrug. "But I shall take your word for it."

"No, I don't think you'll truly understand this one without context," Tip said, pulling her phone from her pocket and poked at it for a few moments, trying to pick out a good platonic-ideal sort of picture to represent "mohawk".

"Here," she said, holding it up. "That's a mohawk."

Hyacinthe stared at the picture a moment, then over to Gratuity, trying to imagine the style on her. "I can see your reasoning," he said wryly. "'Tisn't my place to declare such a thing for you, but I do believe you made the best choice."

"It's a lot of look," Tip agreed. "I'm perfectly happy sticking to my afro. And maybe sometimes braids."

If she could find someone on the island who did braids properly, she'd be over the moon.

"'Tis a hairstyle unlike any I've seen before," Hyacinthe said. "A profusion of tiny curls that frame your face well." He ran his hand through his own crop of loose curls that hung to his collar. "Is it hard to braid? I know my own tends to fall out of a braid at the first opportunity."

"That's because it's kind of thin, right? That helps it lie relatively smooth. Mine is pretty thick and kinky, so it holds shapes really well, but you have to know how to work with the curl so you don't end up breaking it or making a mess."

Hyacinthe was curious about the different texture of Gratuity's hair as compared to his own, but the idea of asking to touch it--or worse, doing so without even asking--seemed abhorrent.

"My mother's hair is thicker than mine, but then, she's full-blooded Tsingani. Though her hair is different than yours as well, her curls are more...wiry, perhaps? I used to help her brush it when I was small and it reached her waist. She had such trouble finding a decent comb in Terre D'Ange; she would make deals with visiting kumpai to bring her a proper Tsingani comb each summer."

That was because Hyacinthe wasn't an asshole.

"My mom's hair is totally different, too. We kind of learned how to deal with mine together, when I was growing up." Tip had had some terrible hair when she was very little. That fact didn't help her trust issues at all. "Maybe you could get her some combs while you're here? There are some nice heavy duty ones for thick, curly hair that are almost impossible to break."

Funny how those two things went hand in hand.

"I'd not realized that!" Hya said, sitting up a little straighter. "She would appreciate that, I believe, and 'tis a much more likely option than me finding a way to bring one of the laundering machines home!"

"Definitely way cheaper, too," Tip agreed with a laugh. "You could look around for other hair products, too. Maybe some oils that aren't common in your area back home."

"Would it be terribly forward if I occasionally asked for your advice?" Hyacinthe asked. "This island has more products for hair than Terre D'Ange does pastries and I'd hate to get...I am not even certain what kind of wrong thing could happen with some of these."

"I don't mind helping. I might not know everything about your mom's hair, but I'm good at researching it. And I like watching hair YouTube videos."

"...Youtube?"

So bad at modern day, Hya. So bad.

"How have you been here this long without discovering YouTube?" Tip boggled. She was of the generation where YouTube was basically a natural law. "You can look up how to do basically anything on YouTube. Do you have a phone?"
