Fourth Floor Common Room [late evening]

Aravis could, once again, not sleep. So tonight she was curled up on the couch (where she had absolutely not fallen asleep the night before) and was watching whatever had come up on the television while sipping tea and poking at a roll of something called Rolos that she'd handwavily gotten earlier, along with a heap of other candies.

She would probably welcome company. And maybe share her candy. Maybe.

Seely's lips twitched as he had flashbacks to more than a few Halloweens with his brother. "Just how much candy have you had tonight?"

"...only a bit, why? I've been sharing with people and I made others try things before I ate anything so I would know if I liked it or not. And also if it was poison but no one's dead so I think I'm safe," Aravis told him.

"Just asking," Seely said. "You seem very... bouncy that's all."

"Bouncy?" she asked, confused. "I'm not bouncy. You're bouncy."

"Oh, I am, am I?" Seely snickered. "Well, you're bouncier."

"I am not! I just like candy. I have been deprived. I'm catching up!" she protested.

Seely bit his lip and nodded seriously. "You're also bouncy."

"I am not!"

She bounced a bit.

"...oh dear gods, yes I am. What's happened to me?"

"Sugar," Seely replied. "Too much of it all at once makes you hyper."

"It's an odd feeling," Aravis said, eating more Reeses. Because that will help.

Seely continued snickering. "It's not so much the high as the crash you have to look out for."

"I won't crash," she said. "I feel like I won't sleep ever again. I don't need sleep! It is for the weak! I shall stay awake all night and watch the television! I'm learning about wine stains and it's fascinating and I have plenty more candy."

Oh, Seely was sticking around to watch this. "That's what Jared says every Halloween too," he said. "Except for the part about wine stains."

"Every what?"

"Halloween," Seely said, wondering briefly if he could get Aravis to jump on the furniture in while in her current state. "It's a holiday where children dress up and extort candy from people in the neighbourhood. Jared is always just like you are now afterwards."

"And you never are," Aravis said. She was about three skittles away from vibrating. "That sounds like fun! Every day should be Halloween! I have plenty of clothes and can dress up any day."

"It's a natural high with me," Seely deadpanned and shook his head. "It's a special kind of dressing up. Costumes, not just fancy clothes."

"Why?" she asked, bouncing without meaning to. "I like dressing in costumes but why do that and why do they get candy and what sort of holiday is this and do you think I am too old at fifteen to count as a child to the people who would hand out candy because I am certainly not a child but I do like candy and I would dress in a costume if it meant I could have chocolate."

"I'm not sure," Seely said. "All I know is that it's got something to do with All Saints' Day the next day. And no, it's not too old here, because it'll be mostly be the teachers handing out candy. Although considering how buzzy you are, they might cut you off."

"I'm not buzzy and no one would cut me off," Aravis said, frowning. "Why would they do that? The teachers are not that cruel. I did not know of the side effects! I am merely making up the lost sugar of my youth! I never had enough to produce this!"

"You're so buzzy I bet that if I touched you, you would vibrate," Seely said. "And it's being cruel to be kind to cut a junkie off from their supply."

A smirk grew on his face. "In fact...I think I might cut you off right now."
He snatched at the packet in her hand.

Aravis squirmed away, her eyes wide. "No! No cutting off! Why would you do that? That's very unkind!"

Seely made another attempt for the candy. "Because you're going to crash and crash hard, and the more you eat the harder you'll crash."

"I will not!"

Her reflexes were not good enough to keep Seely from grabbing the candy.

The flailing, however, caused her to fall off the couch.

"...that was intentional."

Carefully holding the candy out of reach, Seely bent over to look at Aravis. "I warned you."
