Fifth Floor Common Room, Monday Evening

"Can you hand me the ginger?" Ronan asked, as he ground some spices with a mortar and pestle. "The fresh, I mean." The fragrant smells of cooking curry were already pervading the common room, and probably making their way through the rest of the dorms. When Isabel handed over the asked-for ginger, he added some to the mixture in the mortar, and went back to grinding. "Thanks. I hope this isn't too spicy for whoever else comes along," he added.

"That just means more for us? Although we might get sick of it if we're eating it all week," Isabel pointed out.

Ronan eyed the pot. "... All week might be optimistic," he said. "The way I cook, it's more likely to be at least two weeks. How's the naan coming?"

"Okay? I think?" she said hesitantly. "It's not like I've ever made this before."

Laughing, Ronan leaned over to eye the oven. "Naan bread's not hard," he said. "Just heat it up and you're good to go. You can probably take it out of the oven now, actually. Want to start throwing pappadums into the frying pan? They'll kinda puff up, they don't take long."

"Into the frying pan, they puff up, not too long. Okay, I can do that." Which she did. "I'm still not sure I believe when you say you can't bake."

"Ask Anders. Seriously. My cupcakes explode. Everything just sort of... fails miserably."

"But why? That's the part I'm not getting," Isabel explained. "Can't you just talk to them? Or is that not applicable to baked goods?"

"Honestly? I'm not sure. Theoretically, I should be able to talk to, y'know, anything. Which includes baked goods, yes. It just... doesn't work, for some reason. It's like I offended the Gods of Baked Goods in a past life or something."

"Maybe you need to have a talk with Jeff, the God of Biscuits," she teased. "Maybe he can intercede for you. But in the meantime, the brownies I made will have to do."

"Mmm, brownies," Ronan said, grinning. "Are they spicy brownies? Please say they're spicy brownies."

Isabel shook her head sadly. "Unfortunately no. I figured dinner would be spicy enough for people. Dessert should be mellower. But I do have a bottle of Tabasco."

"Hmm." Ronan's grin widened. "I have something that I think you'll like even more..."

"If we had a soundtrack this would be the point where ominous music would start playing wouldn't it?" she grinned.

"Oooo, what are you making?" Charlie asked, as she leaned on the counter, looking hopeful.

"Indian food," Isabel smiled. "I've never had it before."

"I have no idea how to make that, but is there anything I can do to help?" Charlie took an appreciative sniff of the food. "I'm starving."

"That's it," she said. "We need you to eat. Lots."

"My skills include knife, fork, and napkin, and I'm ready to serve," Charlie said, bouncing onto a barstool with an expectant and gleeful expression. "So, how are things going? I think I've totally managed to not talk to you since the horror that was Jumanji."

"I don't blame you for repressing that," Isabel replied, shaking her head. "Things have been mellow mostly. I've been spending time with Wyatt, and I went up to Boston for a bachelorette party this weekend."

"Cool, who's getting married?" Charlie asked, taking a bite of curry, then devolving into yummy sounds for three minutes straight.

"Two students that graduated in the spring," she explained. "The wedding's in November. It should be fun."

"MmmmmmmMMMMmmmm," Charlie said blissfully. "Well, cool. I don't think I could get married right out of high school. But it sounds kinda romantic."

"Considering I thought I was a few weeks ago? I can't say anything," Isabel shrugged. "But John and Aeryn? They just make sense."

"John and Aeryn-- oh, hey, wait, is this Radio John? The funny one?" Charlie grinned. "I can't imagine a guy like that getting married, somehow. Without balloon animals, or, I don't know. Clown cars?"

"That would be radio John, yes," she laughed. "As for balloon animals and clown cars? It's a possibility. Anything is a possibility, it's a wedding for Fandom people. They could have a gremlin as a ring bearer."
