Third Floor Common Room, Saturday Morning

After waking up with an annoying back ache, Lucas padded out to the common room to see if there was anything decent to eat. He made himself some cereal and spread out on the couch, whining something about cocoa puffs and how no one could possibly feel his pain.

He turned the TV on. Maybe some sappy movies would make him feel better.

Alex wandered into the common room, in search of some breakfast. And yes, she was still in her pajamas. It was too early to get dressed.

Lucas waved his spoon at her weakly, "Hey."

"Hey," Alex smiled. Cute boy alert. "You okay?"

"I'm okay," Lucas said, sighing because he was obviously not okay. "Just feeling a little down. There were no cocoa puffs. I had to eat cocoa krispies."

Jack was pouty. Pouty and hungry and why was his hair so limp today? There was no food on the second floor. Maybe the third? Yes. The third. They didn't deserve to have food when the second floor didn't, his thoughts went, as he trudged up the stairs.

Lucas waved to the newcomer from where he lounged on the sofa with Alex's heating pad.

He stared at the ASPCA (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8EYocy_DN60) commercial. "Those poor animals," he said. "I just feel so awful for them. And the song, it's so depressing!"

Jack was crying. Not sobbing, but tears trickling down his face. "Those poor things!" he said, collapsing in a chair. "Won't anyone do something?"

Lucas nodded, wiping at his left eye that was not tearing up. "We can adopt them and save them. They let pets in the dorms, right?"

Luke shuffled into the common room wrapped completely in a bedspread and carrying his pillow.

"You're eating all the chocolate!" he accused, pointing at the cereal bowl.

"I wasn't the one who finished the cocoa puffs!" Lucas retorted, annoyed by the accusation. "This stuff sucks!"

"You suck," Luke said, flouncing over to a couch and curling up. "Is there any frosting in the fridge?"

"I don't know, but if there's cake in there, you're sharing!" Not that Lucas was getting up. "My back hurts and you shouldn't be mean to me. You don't even know me."

Coraline was staring at the new boy, even knowing it was rude, because it was an impressive entrance. "There's more chocolate," she pointed out.

"I want that chocolate," Luke whined.

"You're whining," she pointed out, helpfully. "And that chocolate is Lucas'."

Spotting Luke, Alex was wondering what the heck was going on here.

"I could get you some more chocolate?" She had a stash in her room, plus, there was bound to be some more here.

Luke nodded, pouting. "I don't feeeeeeeel good," he whined.

Alex winced, feeling bad for Luke. "I'm sorry," and she meant it, too.

Coraline wandered in sometime after her roommate and perched next to him on the couch. "Good morning," said Coraline, looking between the television and Lucas. "I'm going to make coffee - do you want some?"

"Uck, no," Lucas said, scrunching up his nose. "And don't make it in here! The smell'll make me vomit."

She wrinkled her nose at him. "Yuck. I thought you liked coffee."

Spotting an unfamiliar face, Alex waved.

Hermione headed to the common room to get some breakfast, and wasn't sorry to see a room full of people she didn't know yet. "Hello," she said, temporarily detoured from the kitchen.

Lucas snorted a little hmmph in her direction. More people he didn't know, there to judge him and blame him for the lack of good chocolate.

Well, that was odd. "What are you watching?" she asked, a little cautious, but she could at least be nice.
