Dorm Pool, Tuesday Evening - PARTY

The day had flown by, and before she knew it, Hinata and Amber, who’d cut out of rehearsal early (small sacrifices), were down in the pool area and setting up the decorations for Turtle’s (hopefully) surprise birthday party. Streamers and balloons in gold, green, and purple matched the tablecloths, disposable plates and utensils. Colour co-ordination was a go.

It took them awhile to get things all set up, but eventually it was accomplished, and a sign at the door to the pool proclaimed ‘HAPPY BIRTHDAY TURTLE!!!’ in, of course, green and gold glitter.

"Hi, Amber Atkins," he said and splashed her lightly. "Whatcha doing besides pulling me under the water?"

"Noooothing," she said, wiping hair back from her face. "Doing the party thing, you know. And uh... I was hoping you weren't still mad at me."

"I was never mad at you in the first place," he said, frowning briefly. "I'm sorry if you thought that I was."

"You had every right, so I just assumed," she replied, shyly. "But yay for not being mad at me!"

And then she tried splashing him.

"Well, if this is about what I think it's about, I also had the right to be mad at myself," he said, turning his face away from the splashing and trying to blindly get her back.

He managed to get her back but she laughed it off and wiped her face, looking at him. "Everything turned out right, didn't it?" she asked, pretty much figuring out that it had.

"I fixed things," he said and half smiled. "And...things turned out for the better. I stopped denying things."

She inhaled sharply with an open-mouthed grin. "Yaaaaaaay! Can I hug you in the water or does that seem weird?"

"You seem to know what I did even if I was being cryptic for fun," he said, gesturing her closer. "Hugs are always welcome."

Chuckling, she nodded and swam closer so she could hug him. "I like to be smart like that."

"I really should actually apologize to you," he said, returning her hug. "For being an asshole to you."

She pulled back to look up at him, but she didn't move her arms from around his neck yet (sue her, he was gorgeous). "No you don't. I'm the one who barged into your room and was all up in your face with pillow throwing and attitude."

"You weren't the only one," he said, keeping an arm around her. "Not by a longshot. And you only threw a pillow. Savannah threw a book. Chuck called me a bitch. Angela punched me. That many people being aggressive, it was my fault."

Amber tilted her head, smiled, and impulsively leaned in to kiss his cheek. "It's okay. We can all be assholes every once in a while. It's just better when we're not. And you're still one of my best friends, Hannibal King. I'm going to miss you when I leave."

"But you're not leaving for a little while longer," he said, giving her a smile and a squeeze. "There's still time to have fun. And I don't plan on losing contact with you."

"A little while longer," she agreed, smiling, and slipped her arms from around his neck. She couldn't cling even though it would have been nice. "I will come kick your butt if you even think of losing contact with me," she threatened with a wink.

"And someone will have to come back, kick my ass into gear if I mess things up," he said and returned her impulsiveness of a few moments ago by kissing her cheek. "You have my word, no losing contact."

Amber grinned so wide her cheeks were sure to hurt later. "You're the best of the best, Hannibal. Angela is so very lucky."

"Yes, well," he said and actually blushed a little. "Let's hope she thinks so too, right?"

"She'd be crazy not to, and Angela is anything but crazy," she said, enjoying the blush.

"She's a little crazy but it's the good kind," he said and grinned. "Just like you. And I like people like that."

"Okay, yah, that kind of crazy is super cool," she agreed, and blushed just lightly. She was the good kind of crazy and that totally worked. "I believe in being easy. Not that kind of easy... just go with the flow and have fun. Be a dork once in a while." A slight pause. "I mean, I'd be easy with my boyfriend if he let me -"

"You're very easy to talk to," Hannibal said and laughed at her. "And I'm sure Liir appreciates the other type of easy. As he should. If he doesn't, I might have to check him for insanity."
