The Salle, Monday Morning

The lack of classes meant Arthur would be spending more time in the salle than usual (if that was even possible), and he hadn't wasted too much time getting there that morning. His arm was coming along nicely, and so he took a practice blade for his left.

Might as well get some simple drills in while he waited.

Dinah woke up in a terrific mood because there were no classes, and the play still had her buzzed. She bounced into the salle with even more energy than usual, chirped, "Hi Arthur!" and headed for the practice swords. And anticipated snark, but didn't care. That's how good her mood was.

"Dinah," Arthur greeted in turn, executing a decent slice on the dummy's neck. "You're... cheerful this morning."

For her standards, even.

"Classes are done! And summer workshops will be easy, and there's new kids to help out, and it's been a great week." She grinned at him as she got into position, stretching out her arms and shoulders before getting ready. "Aren't you psyched?"

No, he wasn't, because classes being done meant he had more time on his hands, and that was more time he'd wind up futilly wasting on brooding about how he was still stuck here. "I'd hardly get 'psyched' by something that small," Arthur said instead, and held up his sword. "We'll be running through a new drill today."

That was a lot of energy. And Ben spent time with Tahiri.

He smiled and shook his head before going back to what he'd been doing with a lightsaber and a remote.

Dinah grinned when he came in, but didn't stop her exercise. "Hey, Ben! Glad to be done with classes?"

Footwork, always gotta be careful with the footwork, left, right, forward.

Not particularly. Ben liked having something to fill his days. "Sort of?" he said, trying not to sound lame.

Ben had been thinking along similar lines. Besides, he'd been up for hours already working on various droids and was beginning to get a little stircrazy.

He walked into the salle, lightsaber hilt in hand, and nodded at Arthur. "Your Highness."

"Ben," Arthur returned, narrowly skirting past adding the Squire bit again. He was learning. "Good morning." He was trying not to stare at the lightsaber too much. He was going to have to get used to them, after all.

Ben gave him a small smile. He'd noticed the lack of "squire" and was trying not to look as pleased about that as he really was.

"I can work with a regular blade if you'd prefer," he said quietly.

"No need," Arthur replied. There were some things he'd have to live with, that much had become clear. "It's a public salle. Your blade is your own."

Romeo was glad to at least have something real to do; he'd spent three days thinking and researching and poking at things, now, and it hadn't gotten him any closer to a final decision on what to do after he left the island. This thinking-before-he-acted thing was going to make him more mad than he already was.

He watched Arthur practice for a moment or two before calling out. "Good morning."

Ah, Romeo. Arthur lowered his sword before he turned. "Good morning, Romeo," he said, "Returned to us, have you?"

"So it would seem -- to graduate, at least, and for a few weeks after that," Romeo said. "After that, I don't know. How have things been here?"

He was already sitting on the mat to stretch out; impolite, he supposed, but he also knew Arthur was perfectly capable of deciding he was talking too much and it was time to fight at any point.

He welcomed such faith in his abilities gladly.

Arthur joined him on the mat, but his own stretches were yet idle. "Same as they've been," he said, "No invasions, no strangeness beyond the regular kind." Also, a slow death for Arthur if things were going to remain this calm. "You won't be leaving as soon as you graduate?" Like Reno.

Tahiri had her lightsaber clipped to her belt when she came in today, yes, but she had a staff in one hand, too, and that was what she started going through a few drills with at first.

It didn't have the feel or balance of a gaderfii, of course, but it'd do for now, until she finished that particular project.

Arthur cast a single look towards her; at some level, relieved to find a familiar staff rather than the blade made of light. He chose not to pass comment, turning back to savage his dummy with controlled blows - no aggression to work out today, merely energy.

Tahiri raised an eyebrow briefly, but didn't complain.

She did, however, mumble, "Someone needs a hobby that isn't beating things up" under her breath before she started on the next routine.

If she had said that any louder, Arthur would have pointed out he had many hobbies that didn't involve beating things up. Such as go out hunting (it didn't count as beating things up if you killed them), riding his horse, and putting Merlin in funny outfits for his amusement.

They were hobbies. Honestly.

With time, he finished, and cast another look over towards Tahiri to consider her staffwork. Not that he felt inclined to speak up, considering last time.

"Deciding to take up being a Sand Person again?" Ben teased.

"Maybe a little," Tahiri replied, leaning against the staff. "It doesn't hurt to keep in practice, anyway, and it's still part of who I am even if I'm not part of the tribe any more."

The emphasis on "I" was very subtle, but there.

"I'm making a new gaderfii," she added, "and one for Dinah, as a birthday gift."

Ben caught the emphasis and nodded. "You have your own pile of projects growing," he said with a smile. "I'm a bad influence."

"Hey, Tahiri," Dinah said, spinning in place. "Classes are done! Woo!"

"They are," Tahiri replied, suppressing a laugh at the spinning. "How'd your last class go?"

"Good! Mr. Dex was messing with us, he showed a good old science fiction movie, and didn't ask us any questions about the terrible movie he showed the week before." Dinah grinned, and re-assumed her stance. "You up for some sparring soon? I missed Fight Club because of the play last night."
