Third Floor Common Room, Late Sunday Morning

Kate had partaken in free common room breakfast on her first morning at Fandom High, so today she thought she’d return the favor.

Unfortunately pancakes were beyond her abilities and she didn’t want to call her brother for help, so she made a safe fruit salad instead. There was a big bowl of it on the kitchen counter, and it was meant for anyone who happened to make their way into the common room, new and old students alike.

She also had all her leftover chocolate coins in a smaller bowl on the table.

"Not really, no," Kate said, and made a face. A moment for a thought she'd regret in a second. "...Oh, eww."

"Yeah. So... I suppose I should stop eating this, huh?" Jaime took another big spoonful.

Kate noticed she had been ignoring her own plate, and ate a spoonful. "Mmm, tastes awesomey."

"Yeah. You must have used awesomefruit or something."

"Probably something like that, yeah. Do you think awesomefruit and miraclefruit are related?" Kate mused.

"I don't know..." Jaime cocked his head. "What's miraclefruit?"

"It's this messed up berry that makes everything you eat after it taste sweet," Kate explained.

[weldedtomyspine]

"Huh. Weird. And obviously named by some corporation or something." Because, really, that was a dumb name for a fruit.

"I find it especially funny that it's not even called miracleberry when that's what it actually is."

[weldedtomyspine]

"That's pretty ridiculous," Jaime agreed.

"But it offers a pretty interesting experience, and you can always make up another name for the thing yourself."

[weldedtomyspine]

"Yeah, but you have to go to the store and ask them for miraclefruit."

[vanillajello]

"There's that," Kate admitted. "But it's just a short moment, and then you can go back to calling it whatever you want."

"Maybe I can convince someone else to do it for me... That would work, right?"

[vanillajello]

"Maybe, but I think you'll lose awesome points."

[weldedtomyspine]

"Hmm... Hey, Kate... you want to earn some awesome points from me...?"

[vanillajello]

"Only if there's money involved."

[weldedtomyspine]

"Um... I'll pay for the miraclefruit?" That was a good offer, right?

"I think they're pretty expensive, so I'd expect you to."

[weldedtomyspine]

"Oh," Jaime's face fell. "Um... maybe another time or something." Jaime Reyes wasn't exactly rolling in dough.

Neither was Kate Gregson, but she had connections.

"I should ask my aunt if she's still in touch with that one guy she was seeing this spring, because that's how I got to taste it in the first place. I could ask her to date him again so we could get miraclefruit for free," Kate grinned.

"Connections, huh?" Jaime laughed. "Was he a nice guy, or would she be doing you a huge favor?"

"He was actually a nice guy. She'd be doing herself a huge favor."

[weldedtomyspine]

"Well, then. A win-win situation, huh?"

"If I can convince Charmaine to stop being an idiot. We'll see."
