Third floor common room- Wednesday night

After a lot of work (some involving a showerhead, don't ask, and no not dirty) throughout the day, Jaina had decided she had to get out of her room for a while. So she'd just gone to the common room, made herself a sandwich, and started reading a report on her datapad with the TV on for noise.

Somehow she hadn't figured out that doing this was bound to distract her, and this was why she was staring at an episode of "I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant", looking seriously confused, datapad forgotten, and occasionally saying things aloud like "There is something wrong with you," and "What do you mean this is a series??"

[Open like an open thing. ...I may have been dying to make this a CR post for a few weeks now. Because omgwtf SHOW.]

"...hey, Jaina? You're talking to the television," Rose remarked. She was looking for bread to make toast, and somehow there wasn't any at all in the 4th Floor CR. "It's not gonna talk back. I hope."

"I'm beginning to hope they can hear me through it instead," Jaina said. "You know there are apparently enough women that have kids without knowing they were ever pregnant that they made a series about it?"

"Like they don't notice?" Okay, this was more interesting than the need for bread, and Rose came over to flop onto a couch. "How do you not notice your stomach getting huge and a craving for pickles?"

"I have no idea. I guess some people only gain fifteen pounds and figure it's fifteen pounds, what's that got to do with all the other stuff that has to be going on," she decided.

"Well, throwing up all the time for months has to be normal, right?" she said.

...Rose's knowledge of pregnancy was solely from movies, yeah.

"I think it usually only happens at the beginning," Jaina told her. "Unless you're drinking all the way through the pregnancy, in which case it probably happens longer."

"Also then you have a a crazy deformed kid," Rose said. "Which probably would be a disappointment."

"I sort of don't know how someone doesn't step in to say 'you know, you've already messed up this bad, we're going to keep this kid safe for you for a while,'" she mused.

Though really. If Child Services existed in GFFA, Jaina would have been taken away from her own parents a long damn time ago.

"I think the government does that," she said. Luckily Child Services didn't exist in the dhampir/Moroi world either. Instead you just dumped the kid on boarding school. "And you'd think not noticing would be a big red flag to them."

Jaina paused.

"This show is going to make me paranoid, isn't it?" she realized.

"Probably depends how good your BC is," Rose said, way too smug.

"First, it scares me that you have an acronym for it," she said. "And it's good. And there's a lot of it. That doesn't mean I wouldn't wonder."

"Hey, I've just watched movies," she protested. "It's not something I have to worry about."

"Really?" And even as she asked, she was hoping there wasn't some traumatic reason for it or anything.

Rose snickered. "It's a guardian thing." Sorta, but she couldn't remember if Jaina knew about the whole half-human thing. "Can't have kids with most people. Makes it something I don't have to worry about."

"That has to make things easier at times." Not that she would trade. "But so you know, you're missing out on a total hassle."

"Which one? Having kids or taking a pill everyday?" Rose asked.

"The second thing. I've never had kids besides the AU ones, I can't say for sure on that," she said. And since it was Rose, and for some reason she wasn't shy there with this stuff, "And if you've ever had to try to figure out daily stuff while you're living on three different timelines, 'hassle' is putting it lightly."

"Hey, my life's normal," she teased. "Just one timeline for me. Do you set an alarm?"

"I take it at the same time for me every day, and back it up with other stuff like crazy," Jaina admitted. "Give me a few years and I might be glad to get rid of it all. But for now, ha."

"And see, this? Is why you don't have to be paranoid," Rose said. "Cause there's just some things that you'd notice."

"I've been sitting in front of this show, though. I may need proof I'm not this stupid." No she didn't. She'd check anyway.

"I'll buy you a pack of pregnancy tests," she promised, trying so hard for a straight face.

"You're so funny. I don't need them anyway, strictly speaking," she said. "...A pack?"

"You gotta be able to buy them in bulk," Rose pointed out. "Saves money. Why don't you need 'em?"
