Lawn of the Dorms, LATE Sunday Night

Just a few hours ago, the flamingoes had given up on their sudden, magical performance, and retreated to their usual perches for the night. The lights had gone out across Fandom Town, and so no one was awake to witness the start of the gentle tinsel snow. Glittering paper floated down, spreading across the fresh snow, coating it in shimmering colours. It was pretty, it was unnoticed, it was...

The fire alarm cut through the air without warning. The fragile peace of Sunday night shattered into tiny little shards, like a lunatic firing bullets into Christmas decorations with utter abandon. The tinsel? Kept falling. The alarm? Would not stop blaring. The firemen? Were out on the town. It was time for the annual 'strange weather' drill, and no man, woman, or angry pseudopod was going to dissuade them from ushering all the students away from the school.

As they rushed into the school, the tinsel kept falling. Enjoy, kids. We hope you stole a coat upon leaving, or you're going to be plenty cold.

Arthur was not best pleased. It was, after all, the middle of the night, and he'd had to get out of the room before being dressed properly.

Considering that he'd been shirtless up until the alarms went, that meant he was currently wearing an entirely unsuitable old shirt with a few scratches down the ends. He was also freezing.

Not that he would point that out. He was a knight. His stubbornness could upstage any cold spell.

Jean, with a blanket wrapped firmly around herself, was busy glaring at the dorms for doing this. Because it was their fault.

This never happened back at the mansion.

Though, at least she was able to keep up a TK shield so no tinsel got in her hair.

"You look cold," he observed, only a little smug as he stood in front of her in a tshirt and boxer shorts.

Ender was generally sensible: he kept extra sweaters in handy just in case this happened. He was wearing one - an old one, given to him a long time ago, proclaiming him Property of the International Fleet in faded white letters.

He had to pick bits of tinsel out of his hair almost non-stop.

And not have Arthur notice he had an owl.

Because then he'd get ideas about training it to kill things.

Helen shuffled by, trying to keep her feet on top of the blanket that was currently all she was wearing. Then she frowned and turned around to see where the hidden creature was, her eyes landing on Merlin.

"Why do you have an owl trapped in your clothes? He's cold and a bit confused."

All right, so this sucked. This sucked a lot. It wasn't like Hannibal slept in much and he'd only managed to get some pants, shoes and a blanket before heading outside into the cold.

The tinsel didn't bother him that much. The cold? Yeah, that sucked and Hannibal would just be bouncing around, trying to keep the chilly air off his skin.

"I'm assuming it's going to be another hour before they let us in," Ender said, ruefully. He was rubbing at his own arms.

There wasn't much to be done about a fire drill and its loud noise, but Griff hadn't exactly left the dorms normally, instead jumping down to the alley beside the Perk and finding himself some coffee. He'd returned to the dorms looking much like the others in hooded sweatshirt, he just also had some heat for his hands.

It made the tinsel in his messy hair that much more bearable.

"You're an ass," Alex said, grumpiness lacing his tone. He wasn't that upset but Griff and his little talent made him jealous especially on days when he was cold and getting liberally covered in tinsel.

The noise frightened Jonas into almost falling out of bed. When he got himself back together, he had to figure out what the sound was. He'd ended up just following the crowd and shuffling outside and into the icy cold.

He'd remembered his coat (thankfully) so he wasn't that cold but the tinsel rain made it difficult to see and got snagged in his hair and on his coat. Jonas still didn't know what was going on but everyone else was out here so he thought he was in the right place.

Okay, being woken up and sent outside in the cold made for a fairly grumpy Karla (though it was much more about being woken up than cold, honestly), but she was able to give Jonas a small smile and a half-wave from under the protection of her blanket. He was one of the people that she liked and didn't get to see often.

"This is my second drill, but the tinsel rain is new," she told him, pulling off a long strand that had landed in her eye.

Rose hated this.

But at least it wasn't pouring rain like it had been last time, right? She'd grabbed a hoodie to throw over her thermal shirt cause it wasn't like it was that cold compared to Montana winters.

Not that she still wasn't grumpy as hell about having to be awake, but hey, her phone was out and she was texting Lissa cause might as well might something of being awake at this hour.

"I don't think we can creep into the cabins a second time, do you?" Jack asked as he shivered inside a coat that obviously wasn't his.

It was probably better not to ask.

The good thing about this fire drill was that Jack wasn't wearing a nightshirt this time.

The bad part was, he'd been unexpectedly interrupted, and he'd thrown on clothing rather quickly and was now foggily wondering why he was having such a hard time buttoning his shirt the rest of the way. (It was probably because it was inside out.) He was also not best pleased with the deep purple tone of the coat he'd borrowed from Emma, but he pretended he was doing that on purpose.

'Unexpectedly interrupted' was such a nice euphemism for it.

Emma had managed to scrounge up pants, a hoodie, and shoes (thankfully), but it was still cold out, so she inched slightly closer to Jack. "If I find out who pulled the alarm, I'm going to kill them."

Yes, Didi's pajamas were black under her jacket. And yes, she was still wearing her ankh.

The eye makeup, however, was missing.

She held out her palm to catch some glitter. It was too pretty for her to be grumpy.

This is ridiculous, Pounce complained from his spot on Beka's shoulders. She'd grabbed her coat (and a knife), but wished she'd thought of putting on her boots over her socks.

"I'm not disagreeing," she grumbled, hopping on the spot.

It'd been late enough that even Alex had been asleep so getting woken up by a blaring alarm and noise outside wasn't the ideal ending to his night. He'd clambered out of bed, forgoing a shirt and just grabbing a jacket and some jeans before making his way out of the dorms.

Fuck the tinsel rain, it was the cold and the lingering snow that pissed him off. At least he'd remembered cigarettes this time. And it wasn't raining actual water so he could smoke.

God, he hated fire drills.

For Effy, this... might actually be worse than having to stand out in the rain. For one, it was cold, in a way that throwing a jumper over her sleepwear didn't really solve, and then there was the tinsel that was fucking everywhere.

Not impressed, freezing, and already covered in a layer of glittery crap. Lovely.

Tara cuddled Mr. Moxy in her arms as she rushed outside, bare feet jammed hastily into the boots that accessorized her pajamas. She didn't really like loud noises in the middle of the night; she just wanted this to end so she could go back inside.

Kennedy made her way through the crowd eventually, hands jammed into her jacket pockets, untied boot laces trailing along in the tinsel snow, and if she was cold at all (she was; she was shivering a little bit) she refused to admit it.

As soon as he was outside, Clark really wished he'd taken a minute to put on a coat or something more than a t-shirt and plaid pajama bottoms.

Shoes, he thought, yes shoes would be really nice for standing in the snow. His mom would have a fit.

Jaina had been smart enough to grab her cloak before coming outside, internally bitching about how she'd just gotten over her kriffing cold, and how if this was anyone's fault, she might not kill them, but she might make them wish she would.

Suffice it to say Jaina was not pleased.

Ellie would not describe her mood as happy right now. She did not like getting woken by a loud alarm. She did not like having to stand outside in the cold even more, but at least she brought her blanket with her. The tinsel, she had to admit, was pretty, but it did not make her any less grumpy.

Leto certainly didn't enjoy being woken up and forced out into the snow. He was wrapped in his cloak, but it was his Bene Gesserit training that stopped him from shivering from the cold.

At the moment, this wasn't the main thing on his mind. He was looking for Alice, as he knew how she felt about the fire drills.

Emma Frost was Not Best Pleased.

She wasn't in one of her usual pajama sets, but had managed to scrounge up pants, a hoodie, and shoes. Mostly because she had been interrupted, and it had been faster to grab the clothing on the floor.

Mirax had never experienced one of these fire drills before. She'd also forgotten her coat, which meant she was hugging herself and shivering, and even the tinsel was getting a bit of a glare from her. It was not the time to be cute, Fandom.

Hayley was not dressed for this. Her red and black pajamas were not that thick, so she was shivering a lot. If you listened carefully, you could hear her teeth chatter.

Mat was freezing.

Therefore, Mat was covered in tinsel and doing a very mature little dance as he tried not to freeze to death.

Raven had had time to grab her cloak because she could cheat and teleport out of the dorms rather than take the stairs. When she spotted Mat, she knew she had to share. "Mat," she scolded, "why did you not put on a shirt?" She lifted one arm, stretching out her cloak in invitation.

The Pants, Katchoo. PANTS. conversation was a lot less stressful when there was just a fire alarm blaring and not somebody about to teleport you someplace, Francine decided, but it was still kind of surreal. It also left her wearing pink Snoopy pajamas and a blanket wrapped around her shoulders, because she'd forgotten to grab her coat from the closet.

Okay, the pjs were just adorable, even if Karla had no idea who Snoopy was. "You doing okay?" Karla asked. "I can put a warming spell on your blanket if you like."
