Lawn of the Dorms, LATE Sunday Night

Just a few hours ago, the flamingoes had given up on their sudden, magical performance, and retreated to their usual perches for the night. The lights had gone out across Fandom Town, and so no one was awake to witness the start of the gentle tinsel snow. Glittering paper floated down, spreading across the fresh snow, coating it in shimmering colours. It was pretty, it was unnoticed, it was...

The fire alarm cut through the air without warning. The fragile peace of Sunday night shattered into tiny little shards, like a lunatic firing bullets into Christmas decorations with utter abandon. The tinsel? Kept falling. The alarm? Would not stop blaring. The firemen? Were out on the town. It was time for the annual 'strange weather' drill, and no man, woman, or angry pseudopod was going to dissuade them from ushering all the students away from the school.

As they rushed into the school, the tinsel kept falling. Enjoy, kids. We hope you stole a coat upon leaving, or you're going to be plenty cold.

[[ HAVE AT THE FIRE DRILL! Go here for our previous fire drill. Y'all know the drill! ... bad pun. bad. ]]

"Mine was warm," she sighed, casting a glance back at Jack. "Very warm. I'd like to get back to it sooner rather than later."

Beka followed Emma's glance and she tucked her chin in the collar of her coat. "I didn't know you were seeing someone."

Emma raised an eyebrow at her. "If by 'seeing' you mean inconveniencing their roommates on a semi-regular basis and occasionally stealing the covers, then yes, I'm 'seeing' a few people."

[identity profile] provostsdog.livejournal.com 2009-12-20 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Beka glanced up at her and nodded. "Not any one enough to keep your interest?" she teased.

Emma laughed and shook her head. "Something like that," she agreed. "Not that they aren't interesting people, mind you! If they were dull, I never would have talked to them in the first place."

"I just don't have any desire to be tied down to one person."

People left you or betrayed you. Emma didn't want to set herself up for disappointment again.

Beka didn't think a moment of a certain Rogue, really. "I don't think I'd be very good at it." Besides, she'd no time for canoodling. Not in Corus, anyway. Here, she'd too much time.

Emma, being Emma, caught the fragment of thought and grinned.

"What don't you think you'd be very good at, darling?" she asked, and she reached out to scratch Pounce's ears. "You've got a natural talent for making friends, at least from what I've seen."

You were in Emma's lap, Beka. Don't be shy now.

She'd not been herself then!

"Making friends," Beka agreed and she enjoyed having her friends. She couldn't imagine not having them around, both in Corus and at Fandom. "But there's not many coves who'll put up with a Dog's schedule." Except for other Dogs or Rats and Beka wasn't going there.

"You don't have a Dog's schedule here, and most of us are night-owls anyway. I'm sure we could find one or two 'coves' who wouldn't mind needing to be a bit flexible," Emma teased.

TOTES DIRTY.

[identity profile] provostsdog.livejournal.com 2009-12-21 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
Beka's eyes widened. "I've no need to find coves that'd be flexible or not," she assured Emma. "You should talk to Kennedy. She seems rather invested in setting people up as well."
icecoldfrost: (all your kings and queens)

[personal profile] icecoldfrost 2009-12-21 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, I'm sure Kennedy will be happy to help, but I was thinking of picking the brain of that nice boy who came out for the family weekend," Emma purred. "What was his name again? Robbie?"

Special Hell, Emma.

[identity profile] provostsdog.livejournal.com 2009-12-21 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
"Rosto," Beka narrowed her eyes at Emma. "He's the Rogue, that makes him not so nice."
icecoldfrost: (Waiting for My Moment)

[personal profile] icecoldfrost 2009-12-21 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
"I liked him just fine," Emma replied cheerfully. "Besides, nice people are so very dull..."

[identity profile] provostsdog.livejournal.com 2009-12-21 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
And Rosto was aught but dull. Beka knew that much, but it changed very little. He was the Rogue and she was a Dog. "He's charming enough and he knows it. He's got Aniki to share his bed with, he doesn't need me in there as well."
icecoldfrost: (Telepath)

[personal profile] icecoldfrost 2009-12-21 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
"Sharing isn't that hard, if everyone plays nice," Emma sighed.

Of course, her version of sharing was simply 'Not Talking About It,' but it worked for her so far.

"Or maybe Aniki's only there until something better comes along." Emma cast a sideways glance at Beka. "I think he liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiikes you."

[identity profile] provostsdog.livejournal.com 2009-12-21 04:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Beka flustered and stubbornly shook her head. "It don't matter what he thinks, he's the Rogue. That's all there's to it."
