Fifth Floor Common Room, ALL DAY (and Night) [Wednesday]

Having a single now was nice, since it meant Minako didn't have to try being tidy around another person, but it got really lonely really fast.

Hence the fact she'd taken over the common room, making a HUGE bowl of punch and setting out chips, boxes of pop, and (store-bought) cookies before digging around in the closet to find the mats to hook up DDR on the ~~meta for~~ XBox.

"Sweet!" she cheered, as she held up the guitar for a different game. "You can be later. Gotta warm up before rocking out!"

"Don't you think your natural abilities make it fucking unfair for everyone else?" Barry

"Nope!" Kathy declared. "I could have absolutely terrible rhythm for all you know!"

She didn't. She was a rhythm gymnast for goodness sake. But maybe Barry hadn't picked up on that somehow?

"Besides, don't you have crazy mind-body powers or something that makes it unfair for you, too?" She remembered that climb to the roof, Barry. "Are you gonna let that stop you?"

"Fuck that," Barry said shaking his head. "I don't fucking dance. Besides that dance game is just a fucking excuse to exercise. I have my own fucking cardio routine, thanks."

"I have memories of twerking that say otherwise," Kathy said, dimples out in full force. "Though, I'm not sure I'd call it dancing, so you may have a point."

"Fuck, that was just for someone's embarrassment," Barry snarked. "And not my own thank you. And I think I did a find job of that too."

"Well, I suffered from plenty of second-hand embarrassment, so I'm going to say yes," Kathy said firmly.

Though now he'd gotten her thinking. "...Do you think we could get Elsa here and on a dance pad?" she wondered. "If we can, that's totally worth having you do it, isn't it?"

Barry gave her look of amusement. "Right. Good luck with that. She hates crowds to begin with and you want to get her up in front of everyone and gyrate like crazy? I doubt that's going to happen."

"She might be persuadable!" Kathy said, because she was one of those people who clung to hope as long as feasibly possible and then even a little beyond. "Besides, her friends are here. Like..." She looked around. "...Rapunzel! Rapunzel's here! And you, and me..."

She didn't see Eleanor or Celia and she wasn't sure who else Elsa was friends with, but that was at least three people she knew and liked?

"Nope. Never going to happen," Barry said shaking her head. "She's dead set about wearing pants. I think looking like she is having a seizure to dance music won't appeal to her."

"I'm tempted to call and see if I can't get her to come down anyway. I wonder if she'll accept 'prove Barry wrong' as sufficient reasons to wear pants."

"Well that's doubtful since she refused to put on pants the times I've suggested before. She's seen me when I'm wrong before so I'm not sure that'll work."

"Yes, but knowing you're wrong and proving you wrong are two different things." She was gonna try anyway. Pulling out her phone, she sent Elsa a text. "If I'm wrong, you get to be right. If I'm right, you get a girlfriend. In pants! Either way, you win!"

"All right fine," Barry said trying to get a look at the text. "See if she has yoga pants."

What?

"Why would she?" Kathy asked, angling the phone away so he couldn't see it. "But I have like a million pairs."

Because she did yoga. Obviously.

"I can loan her a pair of mine if she agrees."

"She text back yet?" Barry said trying to see what the message was still.

"She did," Kathy said, reading it and starting to type furiously back. "She seems intrigued."

Or suspicious.

Okay, it was probably suspicious. But that was kind of like being intrigued! If you squinted.

"Why do you care what kind of pants she wears?" she asked, just realizing that was weird. Like Barry had an opinion on women's fashion most of the time.

"I just want her to be comfortable!"

Lies.

And then he felt guilty. Which is rare for him but it does happen.

"Look. Don't pressure her okay? If she says no just let it go," he said earnestly.

"Goodness, Barry! I'm not going to twist her arm!" Kathy huffed. "If she doesn't want to come, I'm not gonna force the issue, okay?"

She typed a few more things, then held out her phone. "Here. This is what we said, okay?"

"It's not about proving me wrong!" Barry protested. "Shit. She was tense enough at her own birthday party. I just don't want to be that fucking guy because she came to the party in pants and had a horrible time, okay?"

"Okay, okay," Kathy said quickly, typing out another message. The last thing she wanted to do was drag Elsa into something that would make her miserable, especially when she was just messing with Barry in the first place. "Look, I just sent this. That should be enough to convince her that I won't hold it against her if she doesn't do any of that."

Not that she would! Ever.

He's very serious about the not pressuring you, though. While it would be great to have you here (in pants or not!), please don't feel like you have no choice. The last thing anyone wants is for you to have a bad time. Especially Barry.

Barry had pulled out his own phone and had sent a text himself. He looked over at Kathy's and let out a sigh of relief. "Okay. Thanks. Sorry. Jesus, I'm such a fucking asshole."

"Wait, what about this is making you into a--an asshole?" Kathy looked at Barry like he was nuts. "You're looking out for your girlfriend's emotional and mental well-being. That's pretty much the opposite of being a jerk."

Look, she'd stuttered over the curse once. It didn't need repeating.

"I shouldn't have even brought it up," Barry said and then saw Elsa return text. "Okay. Nevermind. It's all good. I just... I know how hard it can be isolating yourself from everyone. I don't want to force her."

"What, the DDR? I thought that was my idea," Kathy said, not entirely following. She was also typing out a long message to Elsa, so was only three-quarters listening. "Look, I think you're being a great boyfriend. And, more important than that, so does Elsa, I bet."

She showed him her phone again. "See? She understood exactly why you were worried."

"Yeah well I secretly wanted it to happen," Barry admitting it out loud.

The allure of pants. Damn it all.
