Saturday evening, just outside the school grounds

There really was something irresistable to the trolls about the giant castle thing at the top of the hill.

I mean, come on! Trolls, castle . . . it was like a match made in heaven!

So, once they'd made lots of good headway pillaging and rampaging through the town, the trolls started on their way up the hill, aimed for the gates to the school, grinning and slathering and singing creepy, troll-y songs of glee.

Aeryn has no idea what the weapon's doing, but she's feeling pretty good right now. She's only seen it used, so she does what she's see, and holds her arm straight out, and fires off a pretty powerful blast. Probably won't kill anything, but might knock him off a little.

The troll stopped mid-roar, tilted its head in a confused manner as if to say "that tickled" and then roars again and starts trudging towards Aeryn, cudgel raised.

Aeryn stands her ground, aiming the gauntlet at the ground in front of him, aiming another blast and hoping he trips in any hole she may create.

Trip he did. Forward. And thus . . . at her.

Not terribly quickly, though.

Her reflexes aren't that good, so while she does step back, that only means he knocks her over and falls on her legs. So Aeryn tries to clamp her feet around his neck.

The troll didn't like that, much.

Only female trolls got to do that to him. He squirmed about and flailed with his cudgel.

This is Aeryn trying really hard to snap his neck with her feet.

This is the troll's neck snapping . . . and it not really seeming to care.

She grunts something unintelligible, pulling her legs free and trying to kick him hard in the head.

The troll grunts back at the kick and goes for a head butt.

It connects, but she's not feeling any pain right now. In fact, she pretty much pops up and says, "You can do better than that."

"Cannot," the troll said in an argumentative tone.

It wasn't terribly smart.

It went for another head butt.

That will hurt later, but for now Aeryn sucks it up and aims the gauntlet point blank into its stomach, just because it might hurt.

The troll, seeing that the thing was metal, winced and cried out--before noticing that it didn't actually do any damage. Then it grinned.

"Me not hurt! Me immune to iron! Me rule!"

Aeryn attempts to smack him across the face with it anyway.

The troll's head snapped to the side, but it just smiled. "Silly puny thing. Me invincible!"

"No, just stupid," she says, and charges it.

Let this be a lesson, kids: using weapons that inject weird things into your body is a bad thing and makes you kind of dumb.

The troll grinned and charged back.

Like two of those headbutting goats they were.

When they collide, Aeryn tries really hard to take him down again. And takes the keys from her pocket, deciding if that's the only thing she's going to be able to maybe possibly cut him with, she can deal with that.

Oh, they cut him alright.

"Ow! Owwwwwwwwwwww! Me hurt!"

That's surprising, but fine. She jabs the keys hard into his throat.

These, by the way, would be the keys with the little fuzzy polar bear keychain.

The troll's continued cries of "ow" were garbled by the fashionable new throat piercing, and the thing turned to stone and then crumpled.

Aeryn stands again, stomping on it hard just because she can. And then she looks around to see who else she can fight. And shoot. She really likes the shooting.

"Aeryn, baby?" John says, having watched all that with wide eyes. "You okay?"

"Absolutely," she says immediately, looking to see where she's most needed. "I'm going to go kill things."
