Second Floor Common Room - Tuesday Morning

Meg didn't have class until Wednesday but she didn't want to get in the habit of sleeping in all day so when she woke up she got dressed and decided to check out the common room. It wasn't long before she was digging around in the kitchen and soon after she had eggs, bacon and pancakes cooking on the stove.

She had heard about the food sharing thing and was doing her best to make enough for anyone who stopped in.

[Open! There's food!]

A lack of classes on Tuesday meant that Adah would be able to stay on her floor, not have to move around too much, which was good, as she might have overdone it a bit yesterday. She had been curled up in her bed, ready to read some more, when the scent of cooking caught her attention, pulled her brain in the direction of the common room almost violently. Meat, of sorts, the unmistakable aroma of flesh, burning, simmering in faint juices of its own fat, and it almost left her stomach turning. Bacon, she realized a moment longer. How long had it been since she'd had bacon? The combination of brain and stomach rebelling against words out of curiosity had Adah limping toward the common room. She limped over, leaned on the door frame to peer in. A small rumble from her stomach preceded her thought of trying to remember when the last time she even ate was.

"Hello." Robin said to her. "Welcome to Fandom."

Adam didn't have class until later, but he was still an early riser. He ventured down two floors and had been lured to the common room by the smell of food.

Walking in, Adam smiled. "Good morning."

Adah appeared to, for the most part, be sitting quietly at the table, nibbling on her meager breakfast that she'd already gotten from Meg, but she was listening carefully. Eavesdropping, if you wanted to be honest about the situation, but she was choosing mostly to retain only the important details. Her eyes would occasionally drift up from her food, look at Adam, and retain the information in her head, eternally matching the name to the face without ever saying a word, thinking about the name, rolling it over in her head. Adam, Mada, Mad A! One letter off from her own, the supposed father of all human kind in the opinion of those haughty Christians. Adam Park, Park Adam. Park, a space of grass or a place to stay, park yourself in a park. Krap Mad A. She retained it all quietly, nibbling and hoping the bacon didn't make her sick.

It was warm out on the roof last night, a bit uncomfortably warm, really. Still, Cassandra had managed to get nearly five hours of sleep, which was more than she usually got, so when she finally makes her way down to the second floor she's smiling sleepily.

Then she smelled the food and moved instinctually toward it. She poked her head around a corner curiously, covering a yawn with her hand, "Hello?"

[identity profile] ecirpnellehada.livejournal.com 2007-09-04 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
It was amazing, really, how long Adah could make two pieces of bacon and an egg last; all day, if she had to. She didn't have anywhere else to go, and if people kept coming and she could sit there quietly at the table with her slow nibbles, observing them while appearing to observe her plate, then she would make it last until she had to get up, move again. Perhaps she was just putting off the moving, but eavesdropping in and catching Cassandra's name to match to her face and remember for later was a good way to do it, she figured. Ardnassac. Ard nass ac. The unheeded prophetess; be warned, be warned, great things will happen if you don't listen, and look, the fall of Troy that no one believed, I told you so, told you so, told you...

Nibbling on her bacon, Adah wondered if her fascination with names was a little too much, but she was going to think twice, perhaps, about disbelieving anything this Cassandra might say, just to be on the safe side.

The smell of bacon had Johnny walking down the hall towards the common room. What? Free food that he didn't have to cook? Hell yeah.

"Hey new girl I've yet to meet," he said by way of greeting Meg.

In her quiet eavesdropping and the quick introduction of the boy's name, Adah couldn't help but look up slightly, breaking her her impression of being just an easily missed lump of quiet at the table a bit to blink. It was hard, after all, to miss a name like Storm, and to think, after a quick glance, that he had the physique to probably fit it. Arms, she thought, like her father's, thought not as broad, and she was left musing on what sort of desire her father might have had in wanting to covet a name like that for himself, a name to fit the fiery temperament of his troubled, stubborn, stormy soul. Could do a lot with a name like that. Storm. Mrots, m'rots, especially in a place like the Congo. Could do a lot, but useless unless you could actually live up to it. Which, of course, left her intrigued as to whether or not he did.

"Hi Johnny! Have you had your first class yet?"

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2007-09-04 03:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Hoshi didn't have any classes this morning. She was wandering around the dorms until she noticed the aroma of food and followed it to the second floor common room. She was still feeling kind of shy, so when she got there, she kind of gravitated to the corner of the room.

[identity profile] im-afrog.livejournal.com 2007-09-04 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Spotting Hoshi, Adam smiled and waved, remembering their meeting at the Welcome Picnic.

Another person entering the room and Adah felt her shoulders draw in slightly before poking at her egg. The room suddenly wasn't feeling big enough, and she was starting to feel concern for her ability to try to pick up things here and there. It would be drifting soon, complicating itself among the swarms of people and voices, but she'd still kept enough of a grip on it to catch a name for the face, which was what she was trying to accomplish today, to try to remember for the mere sake of remembering, through the introduction she'd given Meg Manning, G'nin nam Gem. MM, GG, backwards forwards perfect match like the girl's rather disturbing perfect smile.

But this one, this one had a different name, not Western like everyone else she'd noticed so far, and that excited her. Hoshi Sato. She didn't immediately recognize the origin, and as she played with it in her head (Ihsoh Otas, I hsoh ot as, Ihs oh otas) there was an excitement in butchering an unknown language, making something of it she shouldn't, like her father, turning Our Lord Jesus Christ into a poisonwood tree...

Sabriel followed the smell of food into the common room, hoping that whoeever was cooking was better at it than she was. "Hello?"

[identity profile] ecirpnellehada.livejournal.com 2007-09-04 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Leaking, leaking, leaking in, like water through a siv, which is what Adah's brain was threatening to be as it became more difficult for her to focus and click onto conversations she shouldn't be clicking onto anyway. She considered, instead of dragging out her breakfast for the purpose of collecting up names in her head like bugs in a jar, finishing up quickly and limping back to her room, but she had the fortune of catching yet another introduction and getting a bit caught up in Sabriel's name.

The names would always get her. Sabriel, one letter off from Gabriel, archangel, a master, of god, Hebrew. Not just one letter off, but an S, a crooked letter, a bent, smooth in its twisting. S is for serpent, for snake, for sidewinder, who marks its letter in the sand as it slithers, slithers. She thought of Lee the Eel, his fingers in the grass, and wondered if she'd just burned into her head an image of Sabriel as a snake.

Wyatt wandered into the common room, yawning. "Hey, Jo," he said, spotting Meg and apparently not having heard the radio in the past few days. "What are you doing down here this morning?"

Robin smelled pancakes. And while he wasn't a lumberjack, he did love him some pancakes. Specially with flies in them. But he wouldn't mention that because he knew humans found that gross.

"Good morning!"
