Ursa Major Campfire: Sunday Evening [5-10-08]

C1. That was easy enough to remember.

It had taken her two trips to move her things down to the cabins, largely because she couldn't narrow down what books she wanted to bring any further, and of course she was sure she'd soon discover things she'd forgotten. But for now she was enjoying her favorite part of living in the cabins.

The campfire.

She just wished she'd remembered to get some marshmallows.

"Hey," Dawn greeted, walking down to the campfire and loaded down with bags. Three--one for clothes, one for cabin living essentials, and one for books. "Are we it?"

"So far," Lana said, standing up with a smile. "Can I give you a hand?"

"This one is the lightest," Dawn offered the clothes bag to Lana, "and thanks. It was kind of awkward getting down here. The big strong Sam-type was elsewhere."

Bridge, luckily enough, has marshmallows with him as he flops down in a seat by the fire. Because a campfire without marshmallows is just crazy talk.

"People!"

"Bridge-people!" Lana said with a smile. "Oooh! Are those marshmallows? I will love you forever if they are. In a purely platonic way, of course."

"They are indeed," Bridge nods. "And for sharing, of course," he adds with a grin.

"Bridge!" Once she'd set up her stuff (which so far involved dumping it on the bed, hi), she plopped down across the fire from him. "So, I need a partner in an involved plot to go to college and still live here in Fandom. You with me?"

Bridge looks thoughtful. "Your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter."

Isabel alternated her glance between Bridge and the bag of marshmallows hopefully.

Bridge responds by taking a marshmallow from the bag and throwing it in Isabel's direction. He knows if she's paying attention, it won't hit her, and if she's not paying attention, well... then she deserves to be hit with a marshmallow projectile.

Isabel had gotten her stuff mostly arranged in her alcove before the lure of the campfire called her out.

She took a seat next to the fire and smiled. "It's amazing how much I've missed this."

"I'm not a big fan of the cabins, myself," Lana admitted, "but the campfires I love."

"Oh come on. What's not to love about communal living?" Isabel asked cheerfully. "The noise, the lack of privacy, the forced togetherness? Isn't it great?"

A pause.

"But you're right. The campfires make are awesome."

Shawn wandered out of the super senior cabin, settling near the edge of the fire.

"Evening," he greeted as he sat.

"Hey," Lana said with a soft, almost shy smile. "How are you doing?"

"Not so bad," Shawn replied, shooting her a smile. "I got a few weeks to hang around doin' not to much. Sounds pretty good to me."

It had taken Meg a good part of the afternoon to unpack her crap in the cabin. She probably shouldn't have attempted to take her whole room with her. She was never good at the outdoorsy thing.

She flopped down in front of the campfire. "Well this is kinda nice."

"Hey Meg," Lana said with a smile. "Yeah, I think it's the one realy redeeming feature about living in the cabins."

"Looks like I'll be spending a lot of time in front of the campfire then," she said. "But if one bug gets on me I'm probably going to flail around screaming. Just a warning."

"Look, we have stars and stuff," Dawn pointed up at the sky. "Nature and everything."

"Ah, so this is nature. I've heard stories about it," Meg said. She nodded. "It's not bad."

"Okay," Z said as she plunked down near the campfire. "I've got the chocolate," and she held up a bag of candy bars as proof, "so if someone else has marshmallows and graham crackers, we're ready to roll."

"Bridge has marshmallows," Lana said. "But I'm not so sure about graham crackers."

"Well," Z mused, "We could just put the marshmallows with the chocolate, but that would be really messy."
