The dorm lawn- Wednesday night at 2 am

At 2 am exactly, a loud buzzing sound rang through the dorms. An not just any buzzing. A loud, obnoxious "BZZZT!" followed by a two-second pause, followed by another "BZZZT!", followed by another two-second pause, followed by a... You get the idea. And the really bad part was the way it tended to feel like it was inside your head when it "BZZZT"ed as you were passing by in the halls.

So due to the "BZZZT"ing and fire safety regulations, the students had to drag their tired, cranky selves out of bed (or whatever), make their way down the halls and stairwells, and file out onto the dorm lawn in the chilly, damp weather, and did we mention it was 2 am?

The Fandom fire department was on hand, but they'd probably make everyone wait for a while just because they were cranky, too.

[And here is your fire drill post! See here for details.

How did it take us three years to do this, game? How?]

"Do you know what is happening?" Éowyn asked. "Must that noise be so loud?"

"It's a fire alarm. It's supposed to go off as a warning if the building is on fire," Meg explained. "So you can get out. It's loud because it has to wake people up if they're sleeping. Since I don't smell smoke or see flames, I have to figure this is a prank or some sort of mistake. Because I don't think the administration would be mean enough to send us out in the cold just for practice."

"I cannot see any signs of a fire either," she said. "If there is no fire, will they turn off the alarm? It is far too early to be so awake."

"Eventually. I'm sure there's procedures and stuff they'll have to do just to cover their asses." And of course no one was going to be moving swiftly at this time of morning. "So for the time being we stand here and freeze."

"Would you like to borrow my robe?" Éowyn asked. "My gown is quite warm and I would hate to see you be unnecessarily cold."

Meg flapped her blanket for a moment then realized that that was a bad idea because it let the warm arm out. "I'm good. But thank you. I appreciate it."

Éowyn was more than happy to wrap her robe tighter around herself in return. "Does this happen often?" she asked. "I cannot imagine how uncomfortable it would be in worse weather."

[identity profile] meg-powers.livejournal.com 2009-02-19 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
"It hasn't before. And hopefully it won't again. But sometimes you get copy cats," Meg replied. "People who'll pull the alarms just because they think it's funny."

[identity profile] outofthecage.livejournal.com 2009-02-19 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
"Funny? To scare the wits out of everyone and make us all stand in the cold?" She shook her head. "Some people have no sense at all."

[identity profile] meg-powers.livejournal.com 2009-02-19 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
"None whatsoever," she agreed. "So if we find out who? We have to smack them around a bit."

And then, since it looked like they were going to be there a while. "Are you going on the Spring Break trip?"

"I'm planning on it," Éowyn said, perking up. "I've never even heard of anything like it."
