Wendy the Werewolf Stalker Campfire [Wednesday Evening]

It was beautiful outside this evening, and so Emma found herself out by her cabin's campfire; cigarette in one hand as she balanced her notebook on her knees. It was easier to work on her creative writing assignment out here than in the cramped quarters of the cabin, and if she didn't like what she wrote, well, she could always burn it.

And really, there was no downside to lighting things on fire.

Coming across on a campfire, Jean made a face at what Emma was doing. "That's a gross habit," She announced, absolutely being that obnoxious non-smoker.

"So is offering unsolicited criticism," Emma retorted automatically. "Yet you don't see me being a bitch about it."

Jean just stared at her for a moment. Even she saw the hypocrisy in that one.

And that was saying something.

Emma just smirked and took a long drag of her cigarette. "Did you get lost, Jeannie?" she asked sweetly. "I'm rather sure you aren't one of the girls I'm sleeping with."

Not dirty, but that was way too much fun to say.

Oooh, cute redhead he didn't know (though he was fairly certain she was in some class or other with him). Jack smiled at her a bit. "We haven't met yet, have we?"

Jean grinned and shook her head. "I don't think so. I'm Jean."

Oh, hell, she was being chatty with the other people there, Valentine figured she might as well start in with the redhead, too. She smiled, giving her a wave. "Hey. You're in a few of my classes, right?"

"I think so," Jean replied, far too perky to exist. "I'm Jean."

Having missed the opening volley between Jean and Emma, Karla sat down and flashed the unfamiliar girl a smile. "Kiss kiss," she said. "I'm Karla. I'm guessing you're new? Or an older student just back from vacation?"

"Jean," She replied, offering a hand. "I am new, just this month, actually."

Valentine was trying to figure out what to do with herself, restless after a boring day at work. She was leaning for maybe a walk in the woods; even dark, it was the perfect sort of evening, and the main campfire was no good. Turtle was there in a good mood and she did not have the brain capacity for Turtle Wexler in a good mood right now. So she started to drift a little, vaguely intent for the woods, but easily distracted, as proved by her pausing for a moment at one of the other campfires, noting Emma and the journal and she nodded toward it.

"Is that for class?" she ventured.

"Supposedly." Another page got ripped out, balled up, and tossed towards the simmering fire. "In reality, I am practicing my freethrow for the WNBA."

Valentine followed the toss of the crumpled paper, her eyes lingering for a moment as the flames started to gather around it, causing it to curl and blacken, and she lifted an eyebrow. "I don't remember hearing anything about there being fire involved in the WNBA," she said. "You'd think it would have stuck around longer if there was."

"Hey, Valentine," Jack said, a little lazily. "How was the hotel?"

"Boring," Valentine answered. "In a way, I suppose I should be glad for it, but I should really not be able to work through three fourths of a book in a workday. And how was your day, Jack?"

"Valentine," Karla greeted with a slight smile. She didn't add her customary greeting. Like her brother, Valentine always had an air of someone to be careful around. Probably because they were so damn wary around everyone else.

Not that that really stopped her with Ender. But then again, they were friends. Or even more if Ben was to be believed. Idiot.

For someone deemed so wary, Valentine returned Karla's smile easily, although that in itself might be just as calculated as anything else she ever did. "Karla," she said. "How are you?"

Jack found his way out to the campfire and plopped down on a log a few feet from Emma. "What are you working on?" he asked, with a general wave for the rest of the group.

"In theory, my creative writing story," Emma replied, wrinkling her nose as she crossed out another line. "Sadly, I highly doubt I'm going to be writing the next great American Novel. At least not anytime soon."

"So sad," Jack commented. "I would think you'd have lots to say."

Karla grinned at Jack. "Three times in as many days? Why Jack, I do believe this is a record. Shall I start getting ideas and writing them in my journal?"

Like she had a journal.

"Kiss kiss," she greeted.

"Is it polite to say kiss kiss back?" Jack wondered, not for the first time. "And I'm curious what kinds of ideas you would get, Karla. Hello!"

Karla sauntered up behind Emma. "Kiss kiss," she said with a smile. Her tone might have been a touch on the sardonic side, but the smile was warm and genuine. "You've been hiding away recently."

"I've been known to hermit on occasion," Emma confessed, keeping her tone light. "I find it improves my mystique, and drives all the boys wild."

Or she'd just been too tired to get up. It happened, sometimes, and the extra sleep usually helped her patience levels once she re-emerged into society. "Clearly, you didn't hear me singing at our campfire the other evening."

"No, thank the Darkness," Karla said, rolling her eyes. "I was off humiliating myself with song elsewhere, because I clearly didn't have enough sense to stay in my damn alcove. You'd think after waking up singing, I would have figured out that subjecting myself to the public was a bad plan."
