3rd Floor Common Room, Wednesday Morning

Kathy was back from the dead.

Kathy was back from the dead, and that made everything else in Anders' life seem ... a little bit mundane. Not bad, mind you, but it was a tiny bit odd to be on the dorm couch nibbling on toaster waffles and watching a marathon of a reality show about a British nanny when somebody on the island had beaten death itself.

On the other hand, what was he supposed to do? Stalking Kathy was hardly an option. So he'd sit here with his waffles and the brats on TV and pretend he knew how he felt about any of this.

[OOC: Open like a common room.]

FIRE DRILL!, Outside the Dorms, Friday Night into Saturday

It started around midnight. Big, purple globs of grape jello, raining down from the sky. Jello drenched the bricks, the emo garden up on the roof, and every window that happened to be on the wrong end of the wind.

An hour later, the dorm sirens began blaring.

By then, the lawn was already coated in a thin layer of jello, and it did not look like the weather had any intention of letting up.

3rd Floor Common Room, Wednesday Afternoon

Anders had spent most of the last 36 hours researching every possibility he could think of to get to LA and try to save Kathy, and kept coming up empty. There were no portals, no magic, no nothing he could see working. And with the island off floating in space, it wasn't even as though taking the cauhseway to the mainland and trying to hitchhike across the continent was an option.

His mind was too exhausted to spend any more time turning over those possibilities, so he went to the common room and turned on the television. It was on the cooking channel; chefs were competing to make a main course using hard-boiled eggs, mango chutney, lobster and something green. His stomach growled at the spectacle, and he abstractly wondered how long it had been since he ate properly.

He'd fix that. Eventually.

[OOC: Open CR, open post. Anders' last open post on the island until July, not that he knows that yet.]

1st Floor Rec Room, Monday Evening

'Somehow' (Kathy was blaming Dante), dinner at El Burrito Loco had involved not one but several alcoholic flights for them to share: it had started with a cerveza flight with appetizers, turned into a sangria flight before their entrees had come out, and finished up with a tequila flight right before they'd finished eating. It was the tequila flight that had done it; they had been just fine after the sangria, but the shots of tequila, even when divided between the three of them, had sent them right over the edge from 'pleasantly buzzed' to 'gigglng and tipsy.'

The trip home hadn't sobered them up much, which was why they'd somehow ended up in the first floor Rec Room instead of heading up the stairs to the third floor. It was also why the discovery of a fully-functioning karaoke machine was pounced on with delight. Normally, Kathy would have been all over the DDR machine in the corner, but karaoke was a much, much better idea--for one thing, there was far less movement involved.

"We are doing this," she informed the guys, plugging the machine in and pulling out the track listings. There were an insane number of tracks from all over the world. Kathy was shocked to find songs listed by prominent K- and J-Pop artists, as well as the standard fare of Broadway, 50s ballads, and 70's rock. "We are absolutely doing this. In fact, Dante, I challenge you to an 80s power ballad-off right now."

The first floor of the Dorms was in for a very long, very musical night.

[Dante and Anders modded with permission, post very definitely open for anyone who wants to come in and sing! Beat the Mondays with secondhand karaoke!]

5th Floor Common Room, Saturday Morning

Saturday found Kathy in a much better mood than she'd been in previous days. Enough so that rather than staying in the room she shared with Raven (who had curled up smaller than Kathy had ever seen her under her blankets in the night) and finishing off the last of the cereal in sulky silence, Kathy had decided to head to the common room to make a real breakfast. French toast, she was thinking. With--hey! A package of bacon in the fridge that needed to be used within the next day or so. Excellent! And some gaeran tost-u to make it really feel like breakfast at home.

Oooh. There was honey. She could make honey-butter! For the regular toast!

She put the TV on for some quiet background noise (was Crying Breakfast Friends playing on EVERY channel?) as she bustled around the kitchen making a hearty breakfast for herself--and maybe even a bit to share if others showed.

[Open for incoming kids! Though with SP warning as there's a sleep and a wedding to get to. Warning: - possible tw for child abuse mentions in this Dante, folks.]

The Salle, Thursday Midday

Anders was often lazy bordering on irresponsible about practicing magic. He could do what he needed to do when it was necessary, and the rest of the time there were so many more pleasant ways to spend his time.

But when you woke up to a monster duffle bag next to your pillow and had to kick prisoner and cursed suitcases out of the way just to get to the privy, it was time to set some shit on fire. Anders set up the targets in the salle as far from the door as he could get for the sake of privacy, then let loose. The bags wouldn't burn without instantly reappearing, but that didn't stop him from trying.

[OOC: Open salle/post.]

The Roof, Monday Morning

So. Merrill had discovered the roof, and more relevant to her interests, the rooftop garden. This had been entirely by accident, as she'd been trying to get from her dorm room to the preserve at the time, and don't ask how exactly point A led to point C by way of missing point B because she'd been a little too lost in her thoughts at the time and certainly wouldn't be able to tell you. It was fine, though, since tending the spiky little plants was a job that appealed to her. It'd worked out well as far as she was concerned.

Having finished with that, she settled down near the edge of the roof, not too far away from the garden. It wasn't the same as being out in the preserve, but still quieter up here than in the dorms.

Somehow, at some point in the last week or so and equally by accident, she had also managed to find the library -- that accounted for the small stack of books beside her. They were all supposed to pertain to elven history, but whether she'd find anything useful in them was entirely up in the air -- so far none of them seemed to be the elven history of her world. She was determined to go through all of them thoroughly, though, and then when she was done she'd turn them in and check out a few more, and so on.

Safe to say that, ever since she'd met that Witch of the Wilds at the party a few weekends back, she was just a little tiny bit obsessed with the idea of finding and restoring an eluvian. It was her duty to preserve and recover what she could of the elves' lost culture, and this? This would definitely count.

[OOC: Open? Definitely open.]

Roof, Thursday Morning

It was a beautiful day, and Anders wandered up to the roof to feel the sun on his skin and look out at the ocean. He'd come out of the simulation with mixed feelings, and the last few days hadn't done anything to change them. He was angry to be taken, angry to be held against his will -- but he always enjoyed fighting just that tiny bit more than he suspected he should.

The fresh air on the roof helped clear his head. Idly, he started pulling weeds from the little rooftop garden. He wasn't much of a gardener, really -- he liked plants better when other people took care of them -- but it was good to have something to do with his hands.

[OOC: Open like a roof!]

Sixth Floor Common Room, Saturday evening

Between the smell of food, the sound of party music, and the sight of a lot of bottles (some of them even non-alcoholic!), it was clear that the sixth floor was ready for a party. Far away from yurts, and more importantly, far away from people who might be interrupted by a bunch of food, music, and drinking!

Summer was half over, everyone. Come on up and celebrate.

[OOC: This is the party for Not-So-Final Destination. Please, feel free to throw in as many I Never prompts as you want so there's a good list to go off of for the next week.

All students are invited by way of the posting at the main campfire earlier this week!]

3rd Floor Common Room | Friday Afternoon

It'd been a quiet week.

That wasn't a complaint. That meant he hadn't turned into some tiny version of himself, hadn't turned into an old man and hadn't had to deal with any dead relatives. Typically, quiet bored him but, sometimes, he'd take it. Chainsaw seemed content with the quiet too since she'd burrowed against the worn material of his jeans and was unusually silent.

It wouldn't take much to set her off, Ronan knew, but he'd take her quiet for now. Absently, he stroked a finger against her head, back and forth, like he'd done so many times before. The television was on but Ronan wasn't really paying that much attention to it.

Instead, he was chewing on the leather wristbands, thoughts elsewhere. Thoughts on the Pig, on Gansey, on Adam and Noah and Declan, on Matthew, and on why he continued to sit here and do nothing while his mother withered away and he was kept away from the Barns.

If he'd been at home, he'd have gone out and found booze, found trouble. Here, he was watching television with his bird. Ronan snarled and rolled his eyes. He'd need to do something about this.

And soon.

3rd Floor Boys' Bathroom, Monday Night

After he visited Alluka, Anders had gone back to his room to tidy as a way to stop him from thinking so bloody much. And, at the bottom of a pile of papers dating back to the summer before, he found the heavy gold earring he hadn't worn in ... it had to have been at least since before the spring cruise. Maybe longer.

And when he went to put the thing back in, he found his earlobe had sealed clean over. It was almost as if the hole had never been there at all.

Having a nice hoop earring and no pierced ear to wear it in was a sad state of affairs, wasn't it? Clearly it had to be remedied. The first time he'd pierced it, an older girl in the Circle dorms held the needle. This time ... he didn't know who to ask. He suspected his friends would tell him to go get it done in some shop, which seemed vaguely excessive. So he took the supplies as he remembered them -- rubbing alcohol, needle, and block of ice -- to the boys' restroom and set up to quickly put a new hole in his head.

He had forgotten that the first time he'd had it done, they'd used whiskey instead of rubbing alcohol, and he'd been fortified by three or four generous pours before the needle touched his flesh. This time, he was sober as a stone. Anyone walking past the boys' bathroom tonight would get quite the education in rude comments that could be made about the Bride of the Maker, her underthings, and her personal proclivities.

[OOC: IDEK, man. I thought of this and it made me giggle so I posted it. Open, though.]

Preserve, Monday Afternoon

Kathy had foregone rainbows and ribbons today; sticking to a sports bra and workout shorts. Anders would be flinging fireballs around, this was not the time to be in loose clothing. She had pulled her hair back into the tightly coiled braid she wore as Banzai, for that same reason. She could handle a few burns, maybe a bit of minor frostbite, but if Anders burned her hair all off, she was seriously going to have to reevaluate their friendship.

"This place look good?" she asked, moving into some easy warm-up stretches. She'd tried to find a spot that had enough still-healing trees that she'd be able to bounce off of and maneuver around, while still being open enough for Anders to be able to get off some spells with decent line of sight. "And any thoughts on how we should do this before we begin?"

[For he who is lovingly mentioned, but also open if anyone wants to hear them/wander by/whatever]

Deck, Wednesday Morning

The truth was, it wasn't the best day to be outside; the sky was gray and looked like rain. But even after most of a year outside the Circle, Anders still sometimes got an itch to be in the fresh air just to prove that he could, that no one was going to stop him from doing whatever hit his fancy.

He took his tea and a nice fat novel with lots of fighting bits in it to the dorm deck and settled in. It wasn't the most exciting start to the day, but he wasn't really looking for excitement.

[OOC: Open like a deck!]

3rd Floor Common Room, Wednesday Morning

Anders had gone to J,GOB's for breakfast and ordered one (1) donut.

The beleaguered young man behind the counter took the order, handed Anders his chocolate frosted -- and followed it with a box of assorted pastries so large it was awkward to handle.

"I didn't order this," Anders said, opening the box to poke at the contents. Not that he was opposed to free food, exactly, but it seemed unsporting to take it without some protest.

"I know," the clerk explained. "But the pizza and Chinese places keep giving away extra food, so my boss says we have to do the same to compete. Tell your friends."

"All ... right?" Anders said, and took the box back to the dorms before the baker could come to his senses. He started a pot of coffee in the common room kitchen, and, by way of a general announcement, shouted into the halls, "THEY GAVE ME FREE DONUTS IF ANYONE WANTS THEM."

That definitely counted as his good deed for the day, so he plopped down in front of the television, not paying much attention to what was on it, and began trying to make his way through as much of the box as he could manage. He didn't want them to go stale.

[OOC: open like a common room with food in it, yep!]

The Salle, Friday Afternoon

Cassandra had woken up with strange urges.

Not unfamiliar, but strange in their intensity.

She had lasted what portion of the day she could not spend elsewhere by thinking very hard about doing something else. Not something that involved the urges or anything related to them, mind you. Something far more cathartic and useful. Something she was, now that she had the time, at last capable of doing.

Within minutes of her arrival, the head of one dummy had gone soaring, slamming back against the wall. Cassandra gritted her teeth and lashed out again, this time leaving a long gauge in the dummy's arms. And then again. The third time, she kicked the dummy so hard it fell over, and she shoved her long blade straight into its chest.

She pulled it free with an angry hiss and turned towards the next dummy.

... the school could fund their replacement, surely?

Third Floor Common Room, Friday Afternoon

'Twas the end of the school week, and Edward had plans to celebrate it. Plans he was currently putting into motion: he had a bottle of something fizzy he'd nicked from one of the other common rooms, he had a bowl of nachos he'd stolen from yet another common room, and he had a sofa he was just borrowing to put his arse on.

It'd been months, but he was at least starting to adjust to the television. It no longer seared his eyes to look at it, and even the noise it made had started to sound almost natural.

So he turned it on, hit some numbers at random, and got... mice. Mice, dressed up as pirates, commanding a ship and raiding other ships for... cheese? Right. Well. Edward couldn't say he understood, but he could say he was too lazy to change the channel again. He'd asked Lady Luck for her recommendation, and this was what he'd gotten. So be it.

"Arrrr," he echoed one of the mice, idly.

Third Floor Common Room, Thursday Morning

Amy wandered into the common room pretty early on Thursday, partially to make herself a cup of coffee before work and partially so she wouldn't disturb Raven with the quick phone call she had with Karma.

While she waited for the coffee to brew, she started to realize something was up. Normally, Amy didn't freely tell Karma how much she didn't miss being in Austin because it was so stressful being around everyone when she was dealing with so much stress, and how nice it was to get some space from everyone, including Karma herself. And she definitely didn't usually end her phone calls with "Love you, unfortunately."

She hung up quickly after that and then announced very loudly, "Okay, someone needs to take my phone right now. Seriously. I'm offering fifty bucks to the first person who volunteers to babysit this iPhone today."

{likely to be slow today because CASE BRIEFS ON CASE BRIEFS ON CASE BRIEFS, but soooo open.}

3rd Floor Common Room, Wednesday Morning

When Anders wandered into the common room to get breakfast, the TV was already showing a marathon of cooking shows. He settled in to watch one -- TV about pie went well with hot porridge -- and found himself learning far more than he'd expected about the upcoming harvest festival. Apparently pilgrims and turkeys were involved, and something about may flowers. (Which didn't make much sense when the calendar was all but coming up on Wintersend, but he'd stopped expecting Fandom to be comprehensible.)

He went to drop raisins into his cereal as the TV went on about marshmallow-topped potato casserole. It sounded overwhelming, but he'd gathered that was part of the point.

[OOC: Open post.]

Fifth Floor Common Room, Tuesday Morning

After last night's bender, Edward had somehow managed to climb up several flights of stairs - only to forget which exact room he lived in. He'd stumbled into a couple of doors, then given up on the whole thing. The common room couches looked as comfortable as any bed, after all.

He'd somehow managed to procure a small blanket (or maybe it was a towel; towel was more likely) which he had yanked over his head. His coat, he'd dropped on his feet during the night when those had gotten cold.

And there he still laid now, snoring. Oh, sure, he'd woken up once or twice already, but the sheer cracking agony of his skull had made being awake seem very uninviting, and he was intent on avoiding it for as long as possible.

5th Floor Common Room, Friday Evening

After last year, Kathy wasn't going to try trick-or-treating around the dorms again, but that didn't mean she couldn't celebrate the holiday anyway. She'd splurged on a really awesome angel costume and had even gotten Minako into the spirit of things. (She'd also gotten a little kitty costume for Artemis, but he'd seen her come into the room and fled under Minako's bed and no amount of cajoling would get him to come out.) Rather than wandering the town, however, she settled for decorating the common room with crepe paper, plastic decals, and big bowls of candy and finding a channel on the TV that was playing all the Halloween specials she remembered from her childhood, with promises of scarier fare later in the evening.

Sure, at some point, Kathy was gonna have to trade her angel wings for her karate gi and go patrol the streets of Baltimore, but until then, she was going to live it up Halloween style.

Best holiday.
