Given her carnie upbringing and her 'condition,' Ada Miller went through more body glitter in a week than most people used in their lifetime. And Ada had an Adventure coming up, so of course that meant replenishing her supplies.

In this particular case, it meant she was hard at work in the little common room kitchen, baking sheets spread out all over the counters as she rotated things in-and-out of the little oven, pans shimmering with different crystal colors as she baked up her latest batches of water-solulable (and very delicious!) glitter. Yes, the commercial stuff was probably easier to use, but Ada's creations were more fun.

Mix, bake, crush, mix, fill the mason jars and seal. Repeat. Hopefully no one else wanted this oven today, because she was going to be awhile.

It was warm out, it was only partly-cloudy at times, and best of all, it wasn't fucking raining. For once.

Spring on the East Coast was almost as miserable as winter for Ada, just in a different way.

So Ada had dragged some pillows and a picnic blanket out on to the deck, and was stretched out in a patch of sunshine to try and soak up as much of the warmth as she could with a generic smutty novel for entertainment.

She'd dart back inside if it started raining, but for now, Ada was going to enjoy being outside, and not locked in by walls of stone.

[So open!]

If there was one domestic thing Ada was very good at (that wasn't sewing costumes) it was feeding large groups of people quickly and efficiently. She'd done more than her fair share of work in the carnival's kitchen trailer, and this seemed like a good day to brush up on those skills.

Sure, there was cereal for those who preferred that, but Ada was whipping up a mountain of fresh waffles, with toppings ranging from healthy to pure sugar. If waffles weren't your thing, well, make your own omelets or pancakes. Ada was in the mood for waffles.

There was really only so much Ada could practice hitting the little target in her room over and over. Hell, by now she could do it with her eyes closed. Which was going to make a great bit when she was back with the carnival, but wasn't so good in a practical fight.

Things she had discovered in Limbo City: being very, very good with throwing knives wasn't much use if SWAT was involved. Those shits wore body-armor.

...she was still frustrated by that, yes.

Which was why today she was in the salle, contemplating a training dummy with a determined expression and one of the knives Isabela had given her. It was kinda hard to practice the close-up bits with an unmoving target, but at least it was giving her a good idea of where the vitals were with an adult-male-shaped target.

Besides kicking them in the balls. She already had that part down cold.

It started around midnight. Big, purple globs of grape jello, raining down from the sky. Jello drenched the bricks, the emo garden up on the roof, and every window that happened to be on the wrong end of the wind.

An hour later, the dorm sirens began blaring.

By then, the lawn was already coated in a thin layer of jello, and it did not look like the weather had any intention of letting up.

It was raining. Glitter. It was raining glitter, and really, anyone who knew Ada at all should not be shocked that she'd dug through the dorm janitorial closets to come up with buckets and place them all out on the deck, letting them fill to the point of bursting with the stuff.

Ada herself was perched on the railing, catching glitter in her hands and laughing as she enjoyed this particular form of precipitation. At least Fandom was giving her fun weird-shit for once.

First had been the conversation with Hyacinthe, then with Isabela and Dante, and now Ada was hard at work in the little kitchen of the second floor common room, with baking sheets strewn around and the oven going at a steady 350 degrees. Sugar, food coloring, honey powder, luster dust... a veritable mad scientist lab set-up with everything she needed to make up little baggies of totally edible glitter.

Sometimes a girl didn't always have the spare cash to buy the fancy stuff, and so Ada had learned early how to make it herself. Besides, it was good to practice so that she wouldn't forget how to mix it up, and maybe the island just needed a little bit more sparkly cheer.

[OOC: Open, yes, and with tasty glitter for all.]

Ada had seen some of the small children running around yesterday, so today she pulled herself out of bed to dust off a long-neglected skill: cooking for hordes of people. It was a skill she couldn't afford to let get rusty, since everyone in the carnival had to take their turns in the kitchen. And Ada, given her dietary restrictions, was almost always assigned breakfast.

Which is why she had quite the impressive set-up going in the common room. Someone had gone out and gotten all the ingredients for pancakes, and was cooking up a storm at the stove. There was a big bowl of fresh fruit out on the counter, plenty of juice and milk in the fridge, coffee for the 'adults', and lots of disposable plates and cups so that no one was gonna have to do dishes.

Breakfast was served, and all were welcome.

It was really windy outside. Windy enough that it had tempted Ringo into an extra long morning AirTrek session. There was nothing quite like launching yourself ten meters above the rooftops and just letting the wind snatch you up and drag you along. She'd only come back to the dorms because she was hungry.

It didn't take her long to make way too much fried rice, and then she stretched out on the couch, plate of rice in her lap, and started playing some new AT videos her sister had sent on the TV. There were some amazing shots of Tokyo's skyline throughout, and some really sweet tricks in there as whoever the video was of (not anyone she recognized from the old days) bounced from building to building.

Huh. Come to think of it, how did anyone even shoot this video? Another rider wouldn't be stable enough to get such a good shot, but the camera was definitely in motion. Not a helicopter, either, not in those tight spaces. Ringo chewed thoughtfully at her rice and stared at the screen with a frown. For the moment, at least, only half her attention was on the really sweet AT tricks on-screen as part of her brain was furiously trying to figure out the technical aspects of filming them.

"So, the thing about cheating at cards, is it's mostly misdirection," Ada was saying, as she laid out her deck. "You can mark them, sure, little cuts you can feel but not see, rough corners that could be explained away as heavy use, but you really don't want the other person looking at your cards, or theirs. Wearing short-sleeves helps because then they can't claim you have a card up your sleeve...but that doesn't mean you didn't have it hidden in the folds of your skirt or tucked in the leg of your shorts...and if they're busy looking at the naked ladies on the cards, they sure as hell ain't paying attention to what you're doing."

Last year Gwen hadn't signed up for this, hated everything, and didn't know how this was her life. This year most of that was still true, but she did sign up for this on purpose, which was what led to those other two things. She was spending her day sitting under a super glittery banner reading "HOMECOMING TICKETS" and waiting for people to show up and entertain her and/or at least buy tickets or vote for homecoming court or whatever.

Or bring her coffee. That would work too.

While Alluka didn't know lots and lots of things, she knew what a tea party meant and, after talks with Ringo and her own experiences at the welcome picnics, she knew that it was important for real parties to have lots of tasty food and fun things to drink. So that was easy enough to figure out! Then she let Ringo handle that.

Which was why there was so much food. Ringo had started by ordering take out "for one" from a bunch of local places, which would probably have been enough on its own. But then she'd found a recipe for fruit punch on the internet, and decided to try that out, and then she'd had a random craving for cherries which had led to a bunch of random fruit. There was even an entire table dedicated to chocolate. You were welcome, Alluka.

Alluka handled the decorations, which meant that come the Friday of the party, ever since just a little past noon, she'd been up on the roof decorating under the critical eye of her bunny and her giraffe (both of whom had differing opinions on everything from glitter placement to balloon placement) but by the time the party was to get started, she'd managed to get it all up, with the tables and chairs and balloons and glitter and banners along the rooftop railing.

Between the two of them, they'd gotten everything set up in time to go and do their hair and change.

Her bunny won the argument between her toys about who got to come with, so her bunny was looking very smart indeed with its ears tied back with a black and white scrunchie.

Alluka smoothed her new dress down and grinned over at Ringo. While Alluka's dress was white (well, okay, with a little bit of black, but they'd both decided that that didn't count) and her hair was up in an elegant twist (Ringo had helped her do it), Ringo's dress was a deep black and her long hair was loose from its usual pigtails to spill down her back.

Now they just had to hope people came.

Somewhere in the depth of a long forgotten storage closet, a great evil awoke from its slumber.

For too long it had been sitting on a shelf. Alone. Abandoned. Covered with a fine layer of dust and shoved next to a pile of cleaning supplies. But now, for one brief moment, it had risen from its endless slumber, with one all-consuming goal in mind.

It had an unquenchable need... for pie.

And so a tiny pink robot bunny shuffled through the lobby of the dorms. There were baked goods somewhere on this island, and Mr. Canute Mimir Fluffypants was going to find some before his battery went dead again.

So...coed slumber party! Kathy had finally decided to stop stressing over it and just throw the stupid party. Sure, A Sunday was a weird time for a slumber party, but since it was the start of break week, she figured it could work. So her morning was spent hanging up handwavy posters advising everyone in the dorms that there would be a party that night, and her afternoon was busy with party prep.

Not that there was a whole lot of setup required. It wasn't a birthday party or anything, so Kathy had skipped out on balloons and streamers and stuff like that. Mostly she just made sure that the common room was clean, that there was a Rock Band and a karaoke setup available, and plenty of places for people to sleep when the 'slumber' part of the slumber party happened. If it happened. She didn't really know what to expect.

Okay, so what made for a good party? Food? She had a bunch of snacks out, lots of different kinds of chips and sweets from JGoB. Also, she'd set up deliveries from Ching Tai and Pizza Planet for later in the evening, so no one would be hungry. Drinks? She had plenty of soda and juice, and both the non-alcoholic punch and the totally-alcoholic Jell-o shots were chilling nicely in the fridge. Music? Right, her iPod was plugged into speakers and shuffling through her Party playlist. What else could a party possibly need?

People. Right. Parties definitely needed people. Well, hopefully they'd show up, either because of the posters or lured in by music and the smell of food. It was the end of summer. What better time for a party could there be?

[OCD up and party open!]

Ringo had been struck by inspiration this morning, but it had taken her a few hours to get everything ready. First she'd spent an hour putting together a bunch of little signs using bright colors and glitter and anything to hopefully make them extremely noticeable.

Watch out on the stairs
AT ride in progress

Then she'd walked from floor to floor with her stack of signs and a roll of tape and taped the things up all over the place near the dorm stairs. She really didn't want anyone to get caught by surprise, after all. That's why the signs were so glittery!

Once that was done, she walked the stairs top to bottom a few times, eyes picking out potential lines to ride and noting any tight areas to be careful of. With a plan in place, she returned to the ground floor and sat down, closing her eyes to visualize her ideal run. The central trick that the whole thing turned on was going to be, well, tricky. She'd need to skate up one wall, kick off, grab the handrail, and use that as a pivot point to make sure her momentum was heading in the right direction to keep going up the opposite wall. And she'd have to do that once for each time the stairs changed direction at a landing.

Ringo rather doubted she'd make it all the way to the top in a single run on the first try, or even the tenth try, but AirTrek wasn't about being perfect the first time. No, it was about practicing until you nailed it. And Ringo was prepared to try as many times as she needed to.

So she got her ATs on, and got started. Laughter and excited whoops echoed ahead and behind her as she rocketed upward, punctuated by sighs and frustrated exclamations when she didn't manage to land at the right angle, or with enough momentum and had to start over. But messing up was part of the process, and she messed up a little less with each run.

She'd get there eventually, and until she did, getting a little better with each attempt, learning little tricks to make things easier, well that was where a lot of the fun was!

[ooc: Feel free to bump into Ringo at any point in the process. Making signs, hanging them up, actually speeding up the stairwell walls, or on a break to catch her breath and drink some water.]
