The Roof; Saturday Afternoon

There were several ways to indicate fall was upon you. Changing leaves, of course, would be the obvious one. You could look at a calendar, which was just a boring way to do it. Or you could check to see if Chuck Bass was wearing his trademark scarf. Which he was. It truly was the greatest time of the year.

Yep, scarf around his neck and a joint in one hand, Chuck was laid back in a chair reading Les Liaisons dangereuses for about the tenth time. It was the only way he could keep his French in check without, you know, actually going to France.

"You look straight out of a catalog," Hannibal said, appearing on the roof not to smoke but more to enjoy the nice day. "What a sight."

"Please, as if I'd ever model for a catalog," Chuck said. "Couture all the way."

Someone watched way too much Tyra.

"I don't even know what that is," Hannibal admitted, wandering near the ledge. "That like polyester?"

"Bite your tongue, heathen. There is no polyester in couture," Chuck said, looking mildly insulted. "It's made only from the best and most people here can't afford it."

"Like me," he said, rolling his eyes. "It sounds like some kind of sushi that would give you gas for days."

"It's a French word, dumbass."

"Did you not notice that I'm not French, dickhead?" Hannibal retorted, snickering.

"Hi, Hannibal," Kate greeted him with a smile and a little wave, going over to the railing to light up a cigarette.

"Heya, Kate, indulging in some bad habits?" he asked, smiling over at her.

"Yeah," she smirked. "It's been kind of a weird week. Seems like it merits smoking."

"What's made it weird?" he wondered. "You didn't change into an animal again, did you?"

"Oh thank God, no," she replied with a laugh. "No, nothing like that, just some... personal stuff." A beat. "Good personal, though, not bad. Oh, and I messed up my sleeping pattern pretty badly. Still not entirely right."

"You didn't get married or anything, right?" he asked, half teasing.

Sometimes you just needed some fresh air. Plus Andy had heard things about the roof but hadn't made it up there yet so he figured no better time to check it out than the present.

He hadn't been expecting to find Chuck up there.

"Nice scarf," he observed.

"Thank you. It's my trademark." No, he had no problem with telling people that. "What brings you to the roof?"

"It's where they keep the fresh air," Andy pointed out. "Well, mostly fresh," he added eying Chuck's joint.

Chuck smirked. "Fresh air might be the last thing you find up here on some nights. It's a favorite spot among the smokers in the school."

"Yeah, can see why that'd be," Andy said. "I mean I guess it's nice to not always provide the roomie with a contact high."

"Roomie not interested in herbal extracurriculars?" Chuck asked. "That's a shame."

It had been a while since Kate's last visit to the roof, so she decided to wander up there before heading to town.

"Is the TV giving you such a hard time you've had to go old school with your entertainment?" she asked teasingly, glancing at Chuck's book.

"Well it's Saturday," Chuck said, looking up from his book. "Everyone knows there's nothing good on TV on Saturdays."

Save for college football but Chuck was definitely not interested in that.

"Can't really argue with that," Kate noted, rummaging around her bag for a cigarette. "Hasn't usually stopped me watching, though."

"I decided to take a break from that torture and find other ways of entertainment instead," he said. "But I'm sure I'll be back in front of the TV, watching Tyra and Oprah before you know it."

"Good," she smirked with a nod of approval. "So I don't have to worry about you not getting a healthy fix of brainrot."

"Oh you don't ever have to worry about me," Chuck said, lifting up his joint. "I have many, many ways to destroy brain cells."
