Okay, so the weather on Fandom was slightly less bone-tinglingly cold than the mainland, but that was really all there was to be said for it. One thing it wasn't, for instance, was ideal weather for anyone to stand around in for prolonged periods of time.

Which was why the Powers That Be had decided it was the exact ideal time to have a fire drill. Loud noise rang through the dorms at exactly 2 AM; good morning, students.

Hope you had time to snag a coat.

While Flick could deal with the cold weather, that didn't mean he wanted to be out in it, freezing his ass off for longer than necessary. And today, going out there wasn't necessary. He didn't have any classes to run to and he didn't have the motivation to slink into town to try and relieve some townspeople of their belongings.

All he really had the energy to do was wake up, put on some clothes and make his way down to the common room so he could scrounge some food and take advantage of their comfortable sofas. Doing this probably made him lazy but he didn't care. He figured he should take advantage of the downtime since it looked like he had to get back to New York sooner rather than later. It was almost Ranking Day and apparently, Mandel wanted Flick there to see the Dux title taken away.

Honestly, Flick didn't really care. He'd done it on purpose and he was at peace with it. He knew what was going to happen, he knew what he was and what he had to do so he didn't need the title. Joi could have it and be safe. The television was on but Flick wasn't paying that much attention to the soap opera he'd stopped on. His attention was on the news articles that he was scrolling through on his phone.

Time to see what the Mandel alumni (including his asshole father) were up to. See how they were wrecking lives and what the current Mandel students had to look forward to. Such a lovely world they were shaping.

It had taken most of yesterday for it to sink in that Cade had no real supervision. He had spent most of the morning jumping on his bed until he'd catapaulted off if it and landed in his closet (...he'd pretend he meant to do that...), and was now looking for something to eat in the common room.

He levitated a box of cereal from the cabinet and sat down on the sofa, eating it by the handful.

Life was astral when you were three.

Walking up five flights of stairs with a leg that you couldn't bear weight on was not fun. There were about a thousand activity Flick would have put before walking up stairs. They included: hunting angry bears, skydiving into a volcano and eating a live goldfish.

Going back to his room was just too far for right now so Flick took a detour into the common room and lowered himself onto one of the cushy couches. He propped his leg up and rested his useless arm against his chest. He kind of wished he could remember what Mr. Wilson had done to him because the guy knew how to fight and what areas to go after to make a man useless. The information would definitely be useful for future fights.

His birthday had been three days ago and between Italy and Mandel, he'd forgotten until just now. He was eighteen now, officially an adult and that meant jack to him right now. He was still stuck on an island that he didn't want to be one, still nursing annoying injuries and still tasked with instructions to sell out everyone he'd ever met.

"Happy birthday to me," Flick mumbled, reaching for the remote to turn on the television. Maybe he'd find something decent to watch until he felt strong enough to get up and either go to his room or elsewhere. That'd be a great birthday present.

Jessica had been walking down the hall when she heard weird, giggling noises coming from a utility closet. "Okay, keep it down," she called out as she knocked on the closet door. "We get it, you're having a good time. You don't have to be so noisy about it."

Then the giggling started getting louder. And there was metal banging. And horse noises. "Okay, I don't know what your deal is, but the horsey sounds is too much. Go find someplace actually private," Jessica said before opening the door.

Two gremlins immediately ran out, clutching underwear to their bodies as they darted into a vent. "I think that was my bra," Jessica noted in horror as she realized that gremlins didn't wear clothes. She decided to stop into e common room for something mindless to watch as she tried to deal with the fact that gremlins stole her underwear when the worst thing possible happened.

That's right. The sounds of gremlins getting it on in the duct started coming into the common room. She could not bury her head in enough pillows to dampen the sound enough, so she also tried turning the tv Volume up. It was horrifying.

[Im actually still at the office waiting for the ok to go home. So I post. Sigh. Delay expected for travel soon!]

Jude hadn't visited last night. And waking up with that knowledge left Flick shaken and worried that his brother wasn't going to be able to find him in this new place. It wasn't like he'd had a chance to tell his dead brother that he hallucinated that he was leaving Mandel Academy. But, his brother had found him in different places before so he was going to give it a few days and hope for the best.

Other than that, his first night hadn't been awful. He'd slept off and on and woken up tired and hungry and still in the same clothes he'd worn yesterday. He was really going to have to do something about that quick. Getting a job would be the honest way to go about it but Flick wasn't honest and he didn't want to wait. Later on, after he found food, he'd go out, find a sucker or two and lift a fancy phone, a wallet or, if he was lucky, a laptop or two. Anything like that would suit him for awhile.

He'd found some fruit in the common room and yeah, it wasn't his, but he was going to take it anyway. He could pay the person back once he got himself a little more settled. Flick took a seat on one of the couches and ate the apple silently. He left the television off. Probably should have turned it on because now he was just going to think and he didn't want to do that.

So, he reached for the remote and turned it on. Mindless distraction time.
