Shooting range, Sunday morning

It had been a while since River had been to the shooting range. It wasn't really that she needed the practise that made her come here today - she knew she was good enough to hit the bull's eye every time from this distance. Rather it was a question of focus, of turning her mind into something resembling that bullet, for what purpose she wasn't sure. Loading the Navy Colt that Jane had given her made her smile though, partly from the memories that any gift evoked. She posted the rules:

SAFETY RULES:

· TREAT ALL GUNS AS IF THEY WERE LOADED

· KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL READY TO FIRE

· BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT’S BEYOND

· ALWAYS WEAR HEARING AND EYE PROTECTION

· NEVER USE ALCOHOL OR DRUGS BEFORE OR WHILE SHOOTING.

· CHECK IN ALL WEAPONS BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE RANGE.

Then she slipped on the hearing protection and aimed to fire.
