When Sairis arrived in the common room, the television was on. There were pictures on it that seemed drawn rather than live people, and they were...definitely odd. Somehow captivating, though.

He made tea absent-mindedly and opted for some of the "cereal" (which still didn't look like it was made from any grain he knew). There was a picture on the box of milk being poured over it, so he tried that. It was sweet, but like the television, oddly good.

So he'd just be eating sugary cereal and watching Saturday morning cartoons I don't care if they're not a thing anymore.

It was really, very, incredibly cold outside. Which was unfortunate for a number of reasons, one of them being that Caleb was feeling poorly, emotionally speaking and his usual remedy of going for a broody walk was, well not out of the question but seemed like it would be counter productive.

So instead, he was listening to the radio, as he attempted to make pizza. Well a few pizzas as the pre-made crusts only came in so many sizes.

The current music selection was actually doing a fairly good job at alleviating some of his angst.

Caleb had felt like he'd been dropped in at the deep end when it came to movies so he'd made a trip to the library to do a bit of reading and list-making, and now he was armed with a supply of micro-waved vittles mun just wanted to use that word (enough to share of course) and the instruction manual for the DVD player so he could try to ease himself the modern movie scene a bit.

So far he had Dracula Alucard starring Bela Lugosi from 1931, Metropolis Proletariat Robot Rebellion from 1927, Duck Soup a Marx Brothers movie, and the Rankin and Bass animated adaptation of The Halfling from 1977.

He'd considered Snow White, but decided that Disney deserved to be a project in and of itself.

He'd welcome company.

Having received a thorough grounding in how to use the internet from Arden, Sairis had been making use of it ever since. It was frustrating that he couldn't be sure how much was true, but he'd learned to research and cross-reference texts, and that seemed to help.

He'd learned a lot about electricity! And how stoves worked. He had his priorities.

So here he was, having found some eggs and meat and carrots in the icebox, and cooking them in a pan on the stove. There was a spice rack, and most of them made no sense, so he'd tasted them. Which was why he was using salt and pepper (those he knew) and something called "chili powder" to season it all.

Sairis had successfully completed the first week of classes here. Even if today's had been much less fun than the others. Fighting, seriously? Him?

Anyway, it was over. And he was back to the room here. After watching Liliana, he thought he could manage the kettle, even if he wasn't sure exactly how it worked. And he found tea and a mug and some honey and milk.

So now he was sitting cross-legged on the floor in front of the couch with a cup of tea, frowning and poking at his new phone, trying to figure out what some of these things were.

Sleeping in for Caleb generally meant an hour or two after sunrise, and his internal clock tended to wake him even if he didn't have an alarm or a rooster.

The night before, he'd glanced into the common room on his way to his dorm room, just long enough to see a couch, comfy chairs, and a kitchen. So once he was fully awake he came in to see about breakfast.

And found himself utterly baffled as to how most of this worked. That looked like a stove but he couldn't see how to light it. He at least recognized the icebox from pictures. Enough so that he knew to look there for milk.

Thank goodness there was cereal.

"Right. The future. Gonna have to figure some stuff out. I wonder if there's a manual for the new fangled fake lookin' stove."

Sairis still wasn't entirely sure what was going on here or how (or if) he'd ever get back home, but after a stressful day of getting ready for a trip to the capital, raising a horse, a night of riding through a storm, and a day of whatever this was, he was more than ready to get to the room he'd been given and fall asleep.

He found the room and unlocked the door. Hm; he might have to do some wards there. Tomorrow. He walked in and blinked; it was easily larger than his master's room back home, though the two beds said he'd be sharing the space. Which might be awkward, when he was awake enough to think about it.

For now, he went to the bed in the left corner and dropped his bag on it, then dropped himself on it.
