Jonas had not disappeared. The only reason he knew something was possibly amiss was the fact that he kept seeing shadows lurking just out of sight, their images passing by the corners of his eyes and disappearing.

It was strange. He thought it was a hallucination at first but he kept seeing them. Jonas frowned, coming to stand near the main campfire, a little tense. It didn't feel like a good day to relax.

In the distance, he thought he saw...something that looked like a bug but it was way too big to be a bug. Right? It had to be. Jonas frowned and crossed his arms. A shadow seemed to appear near a cabin and he turned, hoping to see something.

Nothing. Despite the heat, Jonas shivered.

Kyle's time had been spent going to class and keeping Toothless the dragon and Marcus the raccoon well fed and entertained. He was used to taking care of another human being, but not animals and especially not a dragon. Getting enough food every day to feed Toothless took a lot of his day (or the dragon was possibly fooling him into thinking he needed more to eat than he really did).

Marcus was still grouchy and went out to do his own raccoon-like things but always came back. Hiccup was still an action figure tucked away safely in Kyle's pocket. Now there was an addition to menagerie. George had turned into a magpie and decided it was a good idea to keep close to Kyle as well.

When he wasn't stealing things, that is.

"You better not have stolen from someone who'll come after me," Kyle said upon George's return with a shiny earring. The magpie cocked his head to the side, then hopped over to bother the raccoon on the other side of the small fire. Toothless was curled up not far away near a tree and occasionally cracked an eye open to survey the situation. Kyle shook his head and went back to arranging bacon sandwiches for breakfast. He hadn't seen Calvin around lately and half expected him to show up as a tiger like that toy he carried around. It seemed like the thing to do lately.

[Open as a camp fire is!]

Alex didn't know why he'd come back to the dorms to smoke when there was a lot of perfectly open space to have a smoke around the cabins. All he knew was that he wanted to be on the roof for this smoke.

Things on the island felt weird. It seemed emptier around the campground and Alex was almost certain that he was seeing shadows lurking just at the corners of his vision. He dismissed it though. Once he got on the roof, he hopped up on the ledge and lit a cigarette, taking a few moments to close his eyes while his face was turned up to the sun.

It was warm but it wasn't stifling. Unfortunately, Alex didn't see the rip in reality opening up just behind him, just off the roof's ledge. It expanded slowly, just waiting for something to startle Alex into falling backwards.

It got its wish when Alex opened his eyes to see a cockroach the size of his leg trying to crawl up the roof wall. "Fuck fuck fuck," he said, pulling his feet up and forgetting about his balance in his hurry to get his legs out of the way.

Hands scrabbling lamely at the ledge, Alex fell backwards, off the roof and into the rip that was just waiting to catch him. Cigarette and all, Alex was gone.

[The roof's open, of course, but Alex is goooooooooone!]
