Elphaba had found a book on Christmas traditions, and had decided to try out one of them. This meant, with the TV tuned to a channel that was playing some interesting music (it was, of all things, one of those cable channels that just broadcast jazz music), Elphaba was indulging in a bit of culinary creativity.

She was making a vegan gingerbread house. And nibbling on the vegan gingerbread people she'd made for it.

She'd even share with people if they helped make the house. Or even if they didn't. There were extra gingerbread people to spare.
