Everything was playing Carol of the Bells.
Billie had a lot of speakers. She had a lot of sound equipment generally. Much of it had at least some sort of output. Thankfully, most of it was not hooked up at any given moment, but the outputs . . . didn't seem to care about that. Any speaker that was plugged in to any sort of power source was playing Carol of the Bells.
This could have -- probably should have -- pissed her off. It at least worried her. She unplugged most of her speakers, took the batteries out of the portable ones, and even turned off her phone to make sure she didn't have too many competing Bells driving Riri nuts. Then she took a large sampling of them out into the common room, where she laid them out systematically and started plugging them back in one by one.
Hmmm. No, the bass amp and the headphones didn't work well together. But the bass amp and the phone sounded fantastic. Especially when she managed to work out the timing so that they synchronized rhythmically. She added the headphones back in, volume low, then added a couple more speakers. Slowed the techno version a touch and cranked up the volume on the jazz coming from the subwoofer. A few more adjustments, shifting the layout of the speakers so that nothing fed back too much into itself, and. . . .
All the speakers were now playing Carol of the Bells well.
