The paint rain from Friday had come off of most of the plants, but the buds on the Pillow Tree were now all different colours. Shiemi was amused. That was going to make for an interesting harvest!

Wait.

Had harvesting non-painted pillows become a normal idea for her?

A few moments to check the buds for damage or other obvious trauma and then Shiemi wandered into the garden shed to fetch her tools. She had weeding to do in the vegetables section. The lettuce was looking almost ready to pick and the radishes were coming up nicely, despite everything the island seemed to be throwing at the poor things. The herbs section, though... The mugwort definitely needed to be harvested and thinned. As did the tarragon and a few other herbs.

"At least the flowers are all okay." Flowers, she mused, always seemed to be okay.

[Garden is open! Though Shiemi may put you to work if she finds you!]

The Garden, Sunday

"Shoo! Shoo- Ah! Get out of there!" Shiemi was too busy to notice the mainland had disappeared or even worry about why her phone and computer weren't working. THERE WERE GIANT HORNED RABBITS IN HER GARDEN!

And other things, too. She'd had to save two teal fawn from a drop bear attack earlier. They'd followed her and now THEY were in her garden and eating everything.

Shiemi had been preparing for regular rabbits, honest! It was spring, so of course she had been. There was mesh for fencing and all her borders were cleared of possible hiding places. And for the teal deer and other wildlife, she'd been planning a change in crop locations... But, but... THIS WAS NOT IN HER GARDEN NOTES!

"AH! Not the new trees! No. Ah! Nii-chan, stop him!!"

Though Shiemi really needn't have worried. A tentacle reached out and slapped angrily at the approaching creature long before she or her demon could help.

Shiemi stood blinking a moment (thereby allowing two baby jackalope access to the new lilacs). "Why is there an octopus in the tree?"

[Open!]
[identity profile] greenexorcist.livejournal.com
There was a garden at the school!!!!! It seemed a little haphazardly tended, but... a GARDEN!

Shiemi had set out with some of the seedlings she'd brought from home to try and find a place to start a garden and had come across this lovely spot that had obviously once been well loved. She and Nee-chan had immediately set about weeding and clearing out old growth, every once in a while stopping to examine and take notes on new plants or insects they found.

"Ah. Look at how badly this area was eaten," Shiemi frowned and pondered the leaf she was holding. "Nee-chan? Let's put some rue here. That should give them a small break. Hmmm. When is the best time to plant it..."

[Open! Shiemi will be in the garden until someone drags her out.]

Karla had let her pick the place for where the healing was supposed to take place and, while her hotel room had the advantage of privacy, Zack wasn't the only one of them who wanted to be out amongst nature for as long as possible before heading back to Midgar.

So Ino had picked her old garden, the one that she'd planted ages ago, behind the stables.

She arrived early, making sure to get there before Karla did, and took her time wandering through the trees, eating a few chocolate cherries off the chocolate cherry tree and inspecting the pillow tree and the blanket tree (and thinking about that period of a few months, back then, that she and Zack had camped out here, since he couldn't bear to leave Angeal's sword in the locker) and all of the plants that she still considered hers in some way, despite the fact that it had been five years and counting since she'd seen them all.

They were still alive. Thriving, even.

Ino found that comforting.

[Expecting one, but totally open!]

It was true that no one so far had gotten mad at her for anything and her classes were being held outside and no one mentioned it was weird when she left her room and so, even though Alluka was still (maybe a little scared) concerned about getting caught, she'd decided to, at the very least, wander outside enough to go and sit on the grass.

Grass was fun. It was all tickly and funny-shaped and hard to tie into knots. (She tried.) When she got tired of that, she flopped down on her back and looked up at the blue, blue sky. It was prettier than the mural in her room back home, she decided, even though the real sun didn't smile, and just burned her eyes if she stared at it too long.

And (still) there was no one to rage at her for leaving her room. Not that her family had ever raged at her--she'd never even managed to get the door open and Alluka, honestly, couldn't remember the last time she'd tried--but… well… few people were as scary as her parents were. She wasn't brave like Killua.

(But then, she didn't have to be.)

Alluka sat up, her giraffe in her lap, and looked around the lawn. She didn't feel quite like trying to go to town, but maybe she'd just explore the grounds around the dorms and school.

So that was what she did, right up until she saw something so amazing that it sent her flying back to the dorms, racing up stairs, and right to Mabel's room. She knocked eagerly on the door, not even considering that Mabel might not be there.

"Mabel, Mabel, Mabel!"

There were no classes today, so, of course, Cassidy was in the gardens.

She was focusing on the land and the plants because it was a really great way to help her suppress the emotions she was feeling and pretend that she was in denial as to what was happening this week. The air was cooler than usual and so she was tugging at the small and annoying weeds that seemed to crop up whenever she turned her back on them.

Some people drank when they were sad and upset, Cassidy worked herself into exhaustion. It was what she did.
[identity profile] nothornlessrose.livejournal.com
It was after class and guess where Cassidy was. Go on, guess.

Currently she was in the far corner of the garden, trying to decide what to do with a really big boulder that looked out of place in the garden. There were a few indentations in the side of it and she was currently trying to figure out if someone would be able to widen and deepen those indentations into shelves for her. It could make a very interesting bookcase for her books, or it could hold her plants and tools.

She was cleaning out that area of the garden of weeds and debris, but her attention kept going back to that boulder and the possibilities therein.

[[OOC: Open garden is open]]
[identity profile] nothornlessrose.livejournal.com
Cassidy wasn't hiding in the gardens, except for how she was.

She'd come down very early in the morning, before it was light out, because she hadn't been able to sleep. She'd pulled up a protective yellow shield around herself and started in on pulling weeds and digging in the dirt to move rocks and stones that she didn't think belonged where they were.

She took one break, which would only be called a break if someone was feeling really generous. After that, she continued to weed and dig in the garden. Her hands and knees became scraped up, but she kept working. At some point, she dimly registered aches and pains in her back and shoulders, but it was a pain that kept her from focusing on her thoughts.

When one of the tools broke in her hands from use, she didn't even seem to notice it and just gripped it by the splintered handle and continued to claw and hoe the garden to make sure it was suitable for planting.

[[OOC: So very, very open :D]]

Cassidy suddenly found herself opening her eyes back in the gardens and falling on the ground. Confused, she looked around, but the things that had attacked her. As she was getting to her feet, she heard a thought in the wind, or maybe she was imagining things.

*REMEMBER*

Her first thought was of the friends that had been lost here and she thought of them first.

Then she thought of her home. Of Dharo and the people that were her friends and her family. She remembered Devra and Burle. She remembered her brother, Clayton. She thought of Morton and how his smile made her blush and how he wished he liked her like she like him. She remembered the land and how it came to life beneath her hands and feet. She remembered how much she needed to be linked with the land and how the woods or the lakes looked in summer and autumn. She went back to remembering the roads and the fields in Weaver's Field -- in her mind she thought of the pretty houses and the clean storefronts. She remembered and kept coming back to Morton and to Clayton.

She sat down and pressed her hands against the ground to make sure it was being brought back as well and then sighed, leaning back.

Then, she did the thing she had been afraid of doing, afraid that even if she was back, others may have been hurt in the fighting she was sure that happened after how many people were taken away.

She swallowed and sent out a worried call on an open thread.

*Shira? Karla?*

Mother Night, please let them be here, still.

[[OOC: Hping for two or three, but it's open.]]

Cassidy was out in the garden again. It helped her think and it was easier to be working out here than to be in her room and feeling so damn helpless. The dorms had always been a safe haven before and being out with the land was helping in some form to keep her from being completely unsettled.

She was on her knees, digging out weeds from the cold ground and trying to unleash some of her power into the ground as she felt it needed. She was being careful not to siphon off too much power because she didn't know when she might need it to help someone. And, well, she really didn't want to get scolded by anyone for doing too much.

She just hoped that they could come up with a way to stop what was happening, soon. Every time she looked up and saw the dark clouds, she had to take a deep breath to calm her nerves again.

Everything would be all right, soon, right?

After a class, Karla went back to her room and changed into Morton's old cast-offs. Between the heavy content of today's discussion, the rapidly fading memories of the previous weekend, and the radio's reports that 'Dite was leaving--which would explain her message asking Karla to meet her at the store later--she had a lot to brood over think about. And now that the ground was thawed enough, Karla decided to skip the roof in favor of spending some quality time in the gardens. She could be useful and thoughtful at the same time with the guarantee that she'd feel better when she was done.

Ten minutes later, she was muddy, with dirt under her fingernails and over her face and already feeling a little better about everything.

For anyone but Cassidy, the school gardens would probably be a strange place to come visit and wander.

Ok, she probably wasn't the only one, but still.

After the brunch and talking to a couple of friends she had missed dreadfully, she found herself visiting the gardens. How much time had she once spent out here, working in them while she was working too many things over in her mind?

Probably far too many, as most of the males in her Court would point out.

She was alone right now -- though knew that probably wouldn't last for long -- which is why she was on her knees next to some new seedlings, clearing out the weeds and doing whatever else she put her mind to for helping them.

[[OOC: Open garden is open and yes, Cassidy still plays in the dirt, even twenty years later]]
[identity profile] nothornlessrose.livejournal.com
Cassidy had given in and taken all of the kids that had shown up calling her Mommy outside and to the garden.

Calyn was sitting, playing with some of the flowers, while Ranira had decided to climb a tree and watch over everyone. Gene was at the edge of the garden, and Cassidy had to tell him more than once not to poke at anything.

Cassidy was sitting on the ground and trying desperately to figure out how she ended up having children with different people.

[[Open Garden Is Open!]]
[identity profile] nothornlessrose.livejournal.com
Cassidy had given up on dressing like a Queen today and her mother had laughed at her about it with great affection. After breakfast and Devra had visited some of her teachers, she had met her daughter at the gardens as asked.

"And this is where I spend a lot of my time, and no I promise it's not all of my time, but they're such nice gardens, Mother. I love working in them and I keep making all kinds of friends or having nice discussions when I'm here..."

[[OOC: OPEN!! Come meet Cassidy's mom.]]
[identity profile] nothornlessrose.livejournal.com
There was a garden.

There was also a Cassidy who was working off some temper and irritation in said garden. It was a good thing that she had remembered to shield her hands while she was working because she had quite forgotten her gloves.

Said gloves were still in a drawer in her room since she had come right to the garden after her last class of the day.

It could be said that one red-headed witchling had worked herself into a bit of a temper. It was a temper she was using to help her work in the garden.

Mind the flying weeds.

[[OOC: Open garden; open post]]

[identity profile] nothornlessrose.livejournal.com
Cassidy hadn't had too many weird dreams this week and she hadn't had anyone dead show up on the island. (Not that she could think of anyone in her family or village that had died and needed to see her.)

So, after her first aid class, she had changed into some other clothes and had once again made herself at home in the garden outside the dorms. She was pulling weeds and helping some of the more sparse plants a little bit. She had already felt the heat in the air earlier, so she had pulled her hair up into a ponytail while she worked to get a little bit of relief.

After the first few plants were taken care of, she found a comfortable rhythm that she soon settled into.

[[OOC: Open garden is open for anyone.]]
[identity profile] nothornlessrose.livejournal.com
Cassidy had made her way up to the gardens again. It didn't matter to her that it was already starting to get warm and sticky out. The land needed love no matter how you may or may not feel.

She had dressed in another borrowed pair of trousers her brother didn't know he had lent to her and a mostly short-sleeved blouse. (Someone might need to take this girl shopping at some point.) She was careful to put cream on her arms and face so that she didn't get a horrible sunburn. She learned a long time ago how much sunburns could hurt and how she was prone to them with her fair skin and red hair and freckles.

She managed to get her unruly hair tamed (in a way) into a thick braid down her back and then set off to work among the plants. There were gardening implements nearby, but for now, she preferred to work with her hands. After putting shields around both of her hands to protect from the dirt and the plants, she put a light shield around herself and started happily moving about the dirt and plants.

Wednesday After Period 3

Cassidy had really enjoyed her classes so far here at the school. However, there was still some tension in her and so she had to go to the one place that always drew her to it.

No matter where she was, a garden always made her feel so much better. That would be why, after changing her clothes and leaving a small container of cupcakes in their room for Hiccup, Cassidy was now on her knees in the dirt of the garden.

As she weeded and moved soil around, she could feel a lot of her worry and tension leaving her.

And yes, she had shielded her hands before starting her work.

Karla wasn't surprised when she woke up and couldn't find her Mommy or Daddy. They were often gone for hours and hours and hours, doing important Court stuff. What was weird was that she didn't recognize anyone in the castle, and there didn't seem to be any servants around to feed her.

So, rather than stay in the room she'd woken up in (also not her room--had they caught the Winds after she'd fallen asleep?) Karla had decided to go looking for people. Someone had to be taking care of her, right?

Her search had lasted right until she'd gone outside and found the garden. It was a good garden, filled with lots of healthy looking plants and deep, rich soil.

The perfect kind of soil for mud. Specifically, mud pies.

Karla forgot all about trying to find someone. Instead, she was sitting in the center of the garden, spattered with mud, patting the mud into rough pie shapes and decorating them with pretty rocks and leaves.

[Open! Come and get dirty!]

This was going to be a bad one; Karla could tell.

Everything had a price. Pain balanced the power she could wield during the rest of the month. No witch could use her Jeweled strength during the first three days of her moontime without agony. For darker-Jeweled witches, that agony extended further, making even basic Craft a chore to be suffered through. Some months were better than others, when basic Craft was painful but doable. Other months, like this one, Karla woke with a taloned fist wrapped around her insides. That meant that any Craft, even something as basic as vanishing a book or floating a glass of water, would be accompanied by intense pain, gasping, and probably tears.

However, there was a way to ease a bit of the pain, and that's what Karla was doing now. Queens were able to siphon their power into the land. They called it the Queen's gift; a bit of blood or power into the land made it richer and more healthy, made the plants stronger and harvests better. And by pouring her Jeweled strength into the land, she would hurt less tomorrow when her moon-time actually started. There wouldn't be the reservoir of power within her to turn into twisting pain. Craft would still be beyond her her capabilities, but she'd be able to walk and move and interact with people, instead of being huddled up in bed, wishing that Ben had programmed Mini-Morton with the rules about fussing.

All of which led to Karla being outside, on her hands and knees, mucking about in the garden. What had started as a plan to siphon off a little power had turned into a decision to start prepping some of the garden for spring--it was still early yet, but Karla could feel the land readying itself and wanted to lend a hand. Her hands were chapped and red (the earth was still half-frozen), her clothing was ruined, and she had streaks of dirt on her face and in her hair.

All of which added up to one happy witchling.

[Establishing stuff for the weekend, but open!]

Karla was feeling moody. Maybe it was knowing that shes was moving out of that cabins and back to the dorms with a roommate she didn't know. Maybe it was homesickness, stirred by her booth at the Multi-Cultural Fair. Maybe it was knowing this next week was going to be filled with a lot of anxiety that few people could actually know about. Whatever it was, she was a mess of different emotions, most of them unpleasant.

And so, she did what any Kaeleeran Queen would do: she found a garden and started working on it. Queens needed a connection with the land; it soothed them, help them think, and, in return, they made the land healthier and stronger. It was a nice trade-off.

Today, however, Karla wasn't concerned about making the land better. She just wanted somewhere peaceful to work while she sorted through her odd jumble of emotions. So she spent the afternoon weeding, thinning, watering, and just basically getting good and mucky.

Ino stretched cheerfully, rolling her shoulders back and casting an appraising eye over her garden. The plants that Dor had planted still got a bit of a dubious look, but they’d been around for a good six months now and hadn’t killed any of hers or anything so she was going to go with, well, now they were all hers.

The few moose that went anywhere near her gardens got the evil eye and firmly rerouted. No moose in her garden, thanks.

She knelt down to expertly tug a weed out of the nearest bed, and settled back on her ankles, twirling the offending bit of greenery around in one hand as she waited. Hmm. Weeding. It was almost summer and summer was always weeding, weeding, weeding.

Ichigo owed her a date, and she’d reminded him of that not-so-little fact yesterday. Which was why they were out by her (even if anyone in the school could use it, Ino took care of it, and thus considered it totally hers) garden near the stables, and she was spreading a pale blue blanket on the ground—because, ew, red checkers were icky even if it was traditional for picnics—and humming to herself.

"You haven’t been down here before, have you?" she asked, sprawling on the blanket and grinning up and over at Ichigo. "Lazy."

After catching up with Grundy and Irene at the park, Dor brought Irene over to the garden so she could see the Xanth trees she had sent to Fandom last month.

"The clothes tree seems to be adapting to Fandom pretty well," Dor pointed out. "And is growing more mundane fashions here which is kind of neat. Plus it's kind of nice to come here if I ever miss home, y'know? Do you like it?"

[For [livejournal.com profile] green_irene but open to all]
[identity profile] talks2objects.livejournal.com
Dor ran after the flying objects, trying to keep up as best he could until he saw the tiny things dive into the ground next to what appeared to be a garden.

Then there was a popping noise followed by what Dor thought was Irene's voice shouting "GROW!"

Dor's thought was confirmed when trees and plants sprung from the ground and rapidly began to grow into full bloom. Irene must have bribed Good Magician Humfrey with something for him to bottle up her talent like that. Then again if Humfrey could put lightning in a bottle, a magical talent shouldn't be too hard to manage.

Dor immediately recongized the shoe tree and the clothes tree as the began to sprout various forms of footwear, shirts, skirts and pants. They weren't exactly what he was used to seeing but maybe since the plants took root so close to Mundania they took on some of their more recent fashions. Then there was a flannel tree also growing clothes, coats and blankets for colder weather followed by a nice fluffy pillow bush.

The next tree Dor couldn't figure out at all. Every time he looked at the trunk it seemed different and the shape would lead him to think something else and...

"Oh!" Dor said aloud and shook his head in amusement. It was a mys-tree. No one could ever figure out those things.

Dor walked around to the other side of the row of trees to find a milkweed plant with some of its pod all ready to picked for fresh milk. Next to that was a cocoa-nut tree (whose cocoa-nuts were filled with chocolate milk) a pie tree with almost every kind of pie variety you could think of and finally a...

"Cherry tree?" Dor said looking amazed. "That could be dangerous! Why would Irene send such a tree?"

Upon closer inspection Dor sighed in relief. It was only a chocolate cherry tree whose fruit had a delicious chocolate center. That was a good thing as the other variety, the cherry bomb, could have hurt someone!

Dor then picked a nice fluffy pillow, a ripe milk pod and some chocolate cherries before leaning up against the mys-tree to watch as the plants reach full maturity.

Suddenly Xanth didn't seem so far away.

Ino who mun nearly forgot zomg *facepalms* wasn’t in the best of moods, and was planning on ditching Liir later but all the same she’d promised Principal Winchester that she’d show her the garden today, and so was outside.

It was hard, at least, to be entirely brooding when she could kneel down and make sure her flowers were doing well. If nothing else, she had this. And her flowers didn’t care if she smiled or not. She loved them no matter what the expression on her face was, and they knew it through her touch.

She closed her eyes and smiled slightly. Then got up and went to look for daisies. She’d promised Grace a daisy chain, after all.

[For Zoe, please! And honestly, I swear, I’ve got the memory of a sieve some days. Ugh. *fiddles with the time, yeah*]
