withoutverona: (oh happy dagger)

Romeo was awake early, and it was too cold by far to go to the beach. He decided to distract himself with a little target practice before class; it had been much too long since he'd used his gun, and he felt like he needed to keep in practice. The truth was, the upcoming holidays meant going home, and going home meant being armed again -- there were no other choices. And if he'd be armed and home again, he had to be at his best. It might be a season of peace on Earth, but that had never meant peace in Verona.

But he held his gun more carefully than normal as he set up the range and loaded his weapon. It wouldn't do to end up like that football player who shot himself, after all. That would just be embarrassing.

[OOC: Open shooting range, yep. I don't want it to be Monday!]

From the depths of his esoteric chamber crept the Thropp, his uneven gait a suiting punishment for the variety of unnameable and unknowable components which weighted his arms. Like a toll of doom, his shadow slipped sinuously over the counter, the oventop, yes, even the refrigerator as he entered the corner of the common room feared by many and bested by some few, brave souls such as he.

For hours did he toil at this task, sifting and stirring and beating, aye, beating the dough as a man possessed! The cauldron beside him bubbled with exotic potency to bewitch the nose and conjure forth the denizens of this strange architecture. And when his work was complete, the great flaming womb of darkness opened and it's fruit pulled forth, only then did he proclaim his triumph!

"Fresh bread and soup if anyone'd like," he said as he took his portion and retired to a corner of the common room to work out a bit of homework.

[open! *can't stop giggling*]

"Sometimes protecting yourself means more than just knowing how to knock out an attacker," said Hoshi. "We've already talked about having a plan in case you're attacked. But what do you do if you're in a burning building? Do you know the fastest way to get out? Do you get out, or do you go find your friends first?"

Hoshi passed out some information packets before continuing. It was worth noting that there was lots of reading material. She may have gone a little overboard. "So I've been reading stuff about how people behave during a disaster, and unfortunately, a lot of people tend to freeze up during in an emergency because that's their first instinct. Their next response to is communicate with others around them or go looking for others. There's even cases when people go back to the bar for another drink before getting out of a burning restaurant. Unfortunately, that means most people lose valuable time when they could be getting to safety. Today, we're going to share our experiences on surviving disasters and work on creating escape plans for when the unthinkable happens. Oh, and the punching bags are still set up, if any of you guys still want to work out."

Ah. The couch. Very comfortable, very nice, especially after a long, hard day at the library and working oh-so-hard in Self-Defense Club. Cal reveled in the softness of the cushions and how easily his lanky body seemed to have no problem taking it over, and munching on delicious cookies that seemed to have been just waiting for him to consume.

The fact that Rumor Gal was on the TV was pure coincidence. Really. It was just on. Background noise. Somehow, 'someone' had lost the remote under the couch again. The fact that he appeared riveted to it was just more of his clear acting skills.
