1st floor rec room, Thursday afternoon

Lottie had considered going into the library today to do more hacking, since she was new to it and might need more instruction and all, but she was also pretty sure the scowling librarian man wouldn't appreciate having a bunch of dogs and cats in there, and the menagerie she'd managed to collect so far of left-behind pets had looked so glum when she'd come home last night.

So she had her laptop in the rec room instead, where there was plenty of space for four dogs and a cat to run around and play with each other. Which Pepper was doing, at least. Two of the dogs she'd found in town were piled up on each other on the couch next to Lottie, giving her sad eyes, and the puppy seemed to be patrolling the edges of the room, barking at the vents. The cat kept trying to curl up on her laptop's keyboard.

So Lottie wasn't really being the most successful hacker just now. And honestly not much of a mystery solver. But the animals had all looked so sad. . . .
